Truck laden with smuggled sand seized

Kasaragod, May 20: A multi-axle truck laden with smuggled sand was seized near Badiadukka here. The smugglers had tried to hoodwink the police by placing empty cartons of consumer durables like fridge on the sides of the carrier. On a tip-off, a police team headed by Vidyanagar Circle Inspector Babu Peringeth waylaid the truck at Nekraje around 4 a.m. and seized the truck.Its driver, identified as Muhammed Mushtaq, a native of Chattankai in Kozhikode, was arrested. A case was also registered for overloading, Mr. Peringeth said.

The police are planning to impose Rs. 60,000 fine for smuggling sand and Rs. 25,000 for overloading to release the seized vehicle pending court clearance.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.

Madikeri, Jul 24: Water from river Cauvery, which is deemed as holy, and mud from Kodagu, the birth district of river Cauvery was collected and will be sent to Ayodhya for use during groundbreaking (Bhoomi Pooja) ceremony for the construction of Ram Mandir on August 5.

Workers of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Hindu Jagarana Vedike collected the soil and water from River Cauvery at Talacauvery Kshetra, the birthplace of river Cauvery.

Special pooja was offered at Talacauvery, praying for the timely completion of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

United Marine Products, Karnataka and Goa has been awarded the MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) best exporter award for outstanding export performance of 2017-18 and second best exporter of 2018-19 from the govt of India under the category   "Fishmeal, Fish oil and Allied products." held at Grand Hyatt, LuLu convention center, Kochi.
 
The award was conferred in the presence of Central Minister for state, commerce and Industry Mr Som Parkash and Honourable minister for fisheries, govt of Kerala Mercy kutty Amma. Mr Muhammad Sameer, Managing Partner, received the award.
