Mangaluru, Aug 10: In an innovative campaign, the Tulu lovers on Thursday collectively took to the twitter to exert pressure on the Centre to include the language of coastal Karnataka in Eighth Schedule of Constitution.

Hundreds of twitterati responded to the call of Jai Tulunad, a pro Tulu outfit to tweet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah using the hashtag - #TuluTo8thSchedule – between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Earlier, speaking to media persons, Ashwath of Jai Tulunad said that the ‘Tweet Tulunad’ campaign was aimed at alerting the PM and CM on the long-pending demand of Tulu-speaking people. When tweets set a trend, it will be easy to draw their attention, as political will and support was required for the cause. “We expect at least 15,000 tweets,” he said.

Tulu lovers have prepared at least 10 WhatsApp groups to create awareness and give publicity to the Twitter campaign. The groups have been created to make more people to create their Twitter ID and tweet. All the groups would be deleted once the campaign ends on Thursday.

Ashwath said earlier Jai Tulunad started a Facebook campaign for the cause. But the response from people to it was not at the expected level. Hence, the organisation switched over to a Twitter campaign.

He said simultaneously Tulu lovers have launched a video clipping campaign of Tulu celebrities supporting the cause. The clippings were circulated through the social media. Now, three such clippings of Tulu cinema actors were under circulation. The clippings of at least 15 such Tulu celebrities would be circulated through the social media.

Innovative, really?

If I had a rupee whenever a group used twitter hashtags for "campaigning", I would be a crorepati.

New Delhi, Feb 19: The UIDAI on Tuesday said its Hyderabad office has sent notices to 127 people for allegedly obtaining Aadhaar numbers on "false pretences" but asserted these have nothing to do with citizenship.

The notices were issued after reports from the police, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said.

"Aadhaar is not a document of citizenship and UIDAI has been mandated under the Aadhaar Act to ascertain residency of a person in India for 182 days prior to applying for Aadhaar," the nodal body, which issues the 12-digit biometric ID, said in a statement.

The Supreme Court, in its landmark decision, has directed the UIDAI not to issue Aadhaar to illegal immigrants, it said.

"It may be noted that the regional office Hyderabad received reports from the state police that 127 people have obtained Aadhaar on false pretences, as in their preliminary enquiry they were found illegal immigrants who were not qualified to obtain an Aadhaar number," the UIDAI said.

As per the Aadhaar Act, such Aadhaar numbers are liable to be cancelled.

"Therefore, the regional office Hyderabad has sent notices to them to appear in person and to substantiate their claims for getting an Aadhaar number," it said.

The UIDAI emphasised that these notices have "nothing to do with citizenship and cancellation of Aadhaar number is in no way related to the nationality of any resident".

In case it is found and proved that any of them obtained Aadhaar by submitting false documents or through false pretences, their Aadhaar is liable to be cancelled or suspended depending on the severity of the transgression, UIDAI said.

"Severe errors like forged documents, etc., will lead to appropriate actions, including suspending /cancelling the Aadhaar," it cautioned.

"Sometimes it becomes necessary to cancel the Aadhaar number when it is found that a resident has obtained it by submitting false biometrics or documents. It is a routine quality improvement process that the UIDAI takes up regularly," the authority said.

The 127 people have been asked to appear before the UIDAI deputy director in Hyderabad for a personal hearing on February 20.

Additional time has been given to allow them to collect the requisite documents, "Since it may take them some more time to collect the original documents that they had submitted for obtaining Aadhaar, as informed by the state police, the UIDAI has postponed the personal hearing to May 2020," it added.

Mangaluru, July 14: In order to detect COVID-19 cases quickly in Dakshina Kannada, the government has commissioned a programme to administer rapid antigen tests.

The coastal district has already received 3,500 rapid antigen test kits, which can give results in 30 minutes, an official said, adding that tests will be conducted shortly and training is being imparted on the use of the kits.

The antigen tests will be conducted for emergency cases like delivery, surgery, persons with severe symptoms of Covid-19, multiple-organ failure and for those whose condition is critical.

"If a symptomatic patient tests negative for Covid-19, then his throat swab sample would be sent for lab testing," the district health officer (DHO) said.

The rapid antigen tests is expected to help in increasing the number of tests and bring down the load of testing on labs, as antigen kits allow faster diagnosis.

It takes a minimum of eight hours to get the results via real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test. Antigen tests can provide results within half an hour.
