Tutorial principal rapes student, promises MBBS seat to cover up, then goes absconding

Bengaluru, Aug 28: The police are on the lookout for the principal of a private tutorial, who is facing the charge sexually assaulting a teenage student and then trying to cover up it by promising her to help secure an MBBS seat.

The accused, Niranjan Gowda, 29, have been booked by the Ramamurthy Nagar police in Bengaluru under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating).

The victim in her complaint said she joined the tutorial earlier this year. Gowda offered special classes in physics and medical entrance coaching.

When the victim was ranked 10,000 in the Joint Entrance Examination, Gowda said he will give special tuition at her house in Peenya. He used to visit her house and when her parents were not at home. He used the opportunity to sexually assault her.

When the victim informed her parents, Gowda promised to marry her and help with MBBS admission. However, Gowda went absconding when the victim and her parents tried to reach him a few days ago.

Kasaragod, Apr 2: Kerala reported 21 new cases of coronavirus with eight from the worst affected Kasaragod district, taking the tally of active patients to 256, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Thursday.

Besides, Kasaragod, five positive cases have been detected from Idukki, two from Kollam and one each from Thiruvananthapuram, Pathnamthitta, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur, he told reporters here.

At least 1.65 lakh people are under survillence in the state, 643 in various hospitals.

Presently, 256 people are under treatment for the virus in the state where two fatalities have occurred, Vijayan said.

Bengaluru, Apr 7: Former Minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramiah on Tuesday termed the shutting by private clinics in the state by doctors as an 'inhuman act'.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Congress leader said due to the fear of Novel Coronavirus, the doctors have closed their private clinics, which was against their profession.

This has affected the people, especially those, who are suffering from other deceases. He urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to intervene and resolve the issue immediately.

Despite the government instructions not to close down their clinics, the doctors have not been responding positively, Mr Siddaramaiah noted.

In this connection, the government should act seriously and give necessary warning to the doctors, to either open their clinics to serve the people, or face action, he added.

Mysuru, Aug 1: A young covid-19 warrior and activist has become the latest victim of novel coronavirus in Karnataka’s Mysuru district. 

The deceased is Khaleel ur Rahman (27), who was the office manager at Farooqia College of Pharmacy. 

During Covid-19 lockdown, he was working as a volunteer and was part of Mysuru City Corporation team also which is involved in the covid related work. 

Khaleel was also part of the team formed by IAS officer P Manivannan, who led the crucial Covid-19 relief efforts across Karnataka. He was also an activist of Social Democratic Party of India.

During the lockdown, he was distributing groceries and other necessary things among poor and migrants in Mysuru. 

Recently he fell ill and admitted to a private hospital. He was suffering from breathing difficulties. He breathed his last in the hospital without responding to any treatment.
