Two brothers killed as speeding bus rams into auto-rickshaw in Karkala

Udupi, Oct 3: Two brothers aged 26 and 30 years lost their lives when a speeding bus rammed into their auto-rickshaw at Shivapura near Hebri village in Karkala taluk of Udupi district.

Police said that younger brother Guruprasad (26) was riding the ill-fated auto rickshaw while elder brother Vasant was sitting on passenger seat.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday near a bridge when the two brothers were heading to Hebri for some work from Shivapura.

The driver of the Udupi-bound private bus lost control over his vehicle and rammed into the three-wheeler, the police said.

While Guruprasad died on the spot, Vasant breathed his lost at a private hospital in Manipal. A case has been registered at Hebri police station.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A suspicious unattended laptop bag with the suspicion of containing “something harmful” was found abandoned at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday.

The bag was found kept in the rest area meant for the passengers outside the airport. According to reports, two men came in auto and left the bag near the ticket counter, which is near the VIP vehicles parking area.

The bag, which was lying unattended near the entrance of the airport was removed from the spot by the airport security personnel at 8.45 am.

Bomb detection squad personnel has rushed to the spot and shifted the bag to a safe zone, said Mangaluru Commissioner of Police P S Harsha.

Kasaragod, Jan 3: A serving officer of the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) was found dead inside his car in Bekal town near here early on Friday.

Police sources said the officer, Rijo Francis (35) has been under treatment after he had an heart attack last year.

Police suspect that the death could be due to heart failure.

Shivamogga, Jun 8: Tyavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari in Shivamogga re-opened on Monday at 9 am.

Zoo authorities said that they are ensuring that all standard operating procedures are being followed, including ensuring social distancing and wearing of masks by visitors.

It is being ensured that pairs of birds are being kept inside enclosures.

Regular sweeping and spraying on the premises are also being taken care of, authorities said.

Floor markings have been made at the ticket counter to maintain social distancing.
