Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 8: The district administrations in the twin coastal districts have declared two-day holiday for schools as the southwestern monsoon continued to unleash its fury in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Though students went to schools in some places on Friday morning, they were sent back. On Saturday schools will remain shut owing to rains.

The southwest monsoon that entered the state two days ago, remained active throughout the night and rains continued to lash on Friday too. Many areas in Dakshina Kannada received  about 120 mm rain since Thursday morning till Friday early morning.

It may be recalled that a schoolgirl was washed away in the swelling waters of a stream at Padubidri in Udupi district when it rained heavily on May 29.
