Two pilgrims washed away in Arabian Sea after visiting Ullal dargah

Mangaluru, Jun 28: Two teenagers lost their lives after they got washed away in Arabian Sea at Mogaveerapatna beach in Ullal on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as Ayaz alias Choto and Shah Rukh, both 19-year-old boys hailing from Sira in Tumakuru district.

According to sources, the boys were part of a group of 10 pilgrims who had visited Ullal to offer special prayers at Sayyid Shareeful Madani Dargah in Ullal after celebrating Eid al-Fitr in Tumakuru.

After offering prayers at Dargah they decided to visit a nearby beach and headed to Mogaveerapatna.

At least four among them were dragged by a high tide while playing in the water. Local swimmers managed to rescue two among them while the two others disappeared in the sea.

The body of one of the missing boy was found after sometime. Search operation is on to trace another boy. The rescued youth were admitted to a local hospital. Further details are awaited.

Bengaluru, Mar 26: The number of COVI D-19 cases in Karnataka spiked to 55 on Thursday after four new cases were reported. 

According to official sources, a 35-year-old man, who was a resident of Nanjanagud town in Mysuru taluk and worked in a pharma unit, tested positive for coronavirus. 

He had been quarantined in his home and efforts are being made to track down as many as seven persons, who had primary contact with 
him.

Bengaluru, Feb 23: The sleuths of Custom Department have seized ephedrine worth Rs 5 Crore in courier terminal of Air Cargo complex in Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), the department said on Sunday.

Customs Joint Commissioner M J Chethan, in a statement, said that Central Intelligence Unit, Air Cargo Complex, scanned the package while verifying export consignments and found concealment of some powder. 5.04 kg of Ephedrine worth Rs 5 crore was packed in polythene pouches and concealed between cardboard layers of wedding invitation cards.

Detailed examination of the Wedding cards revealed banned drugs hidden between 43 wedding invitation cards in the package that also contained a few clothes.

Tumuku, Jul 6: Senior Congress leader and Kunigal MLA Dr H D Ranganathm tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The 48-year-old Congress legislature, a doctor by himself, was admitted to Manipal hospital and recovering, he said in a tweet.

Dr Ranganath said he took all precautions, yet could not save himself from the virus and advice people to not to take the contagion lightly.
