Kasaragod, Sept 4: In separate tragic incidents in the district, a man who jumped into the swollen Chandragiri river from the State Highway bridge met watery grave while two others, including a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, were feared drowned near here and Kumbla.
Mani, 35, a resident of nearby Nagoori locality in Koodal village, is said to have jumped into the river on Sunday afternoon and his body was recovered by a team of Fire and Rescue Services and Coastal Police personnel around 4 p.m., the police said.
It was not immediately known whether he tried to commit suicide. The body has been shifted to the General Hospital here.
Meanwhile, search operations are under way to trace the missing girl, Saira Saiban, daughter of Kabir, a resident of Cherur locality in the nearby Chengala village.
The search by the Fire and Rescue Services and the police, assisted by local residents, began after the girl, who was playing near home, went missing.
However, she could not be traced till late on Sundayevening, police sources said.
Khalil, 20, who ventured into the sea in search of a cricket ball at Mogral-Kopplam beach, near Kumbla, was swept away by the sea around 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Fire and Rescue Services and coastal police personnel, along with expert divers from Mangaluru, were continuing their search operations till late on Sunday, Coastal police sources at Kumbla said.
