Uchila Friends lift KWAR’s Karavali Cricket Trophy-2014

Riyadh: Riyadh’s prestigious cricket trophy of the year sponsored by ABC Cargo ‘Karavali Cricket Trophy’2014’ was won by ‘Uchila Friends’, after beating last year’s champion ‘Raigad Kings Aftab’

The winner bagged an attractive trophy and a cash prize. Raigad Kings Aftab managed to score only 72 Runs in 10 overs as Uchila Friends never allowed them to take-off by taking wickets at every interval and later chasing out easily.

Organized by the Karavali Welfare Association-Riyadh, (KWAR), the cricket tournament started on December 12, 2014 with following 20 teams fighting for the trophy in a knock-out format.

Group 1:  AL JAZEERAH, RAISCO FRIENDS, ARROWS CRICKET TEAM, NEW STAR, UNION GUYS AZIZIA, LULU CRICKET TEAM, SCFC, SEVEN STAR, UCHILA FRIENDS and EAGLE RIYADH.

Group B: BMR BADIAH, CLASSIC FRIENDS PUTTUR (CFP), UNITED ULLAL, HANA CRICKET TEAM, LAGAAN UDUPI , X1 STAR KARKALA, RTCC, RAIGAD KINGS AFTAB (RKA), SALUMCO XI and  STAR CRICKET CLUB(SCC).

Last year’s runner up ‘Seven Stars’ failed to progress from second round while many strong teams failed to impress. However, ‘Uchila Friends’ were cruising nicely throughout the tournament. Their crucial win was in the first round match against ‘Eagle Riyadh’ and in the semi-finals they won the match with ‘last ball’ sixer.  

In the final, man of the match prize was won by Rauf Uchila, whose brilliant batting helped the Uchila Friends. Player of the tournament and best batsman title was won by Hussain of Uchila Friends, who was presented with a trophy and cash prize thanks to his consistent all-round performance.

United Ullal and ‘Al Jazeerah’ fought for the 3rd and 4th place. United Ullal prevailed over Al Jazeerah by beating them with 5 wickets.  

The main attraction of this chilly morning was traditional breakfast ‘Sajjige-Bajil’ served in banana leaves.  “Nadec” company provided the crowd with free juice packets. Umesh shetty entertained the crowd with running commentary. A lovely Friday morning welcomed the cricket fans who flocked the ground to watch the finals.

Prize distribution ceremony was conducted on the ground and Mr. Parvez Ali compered the whole programme. KWAR president Rajesh Kumar addressed the crowd and thanked all the participating teams for their support to KWAR. Guest of the day was Mohan Nethrakere, Warehouse Manager of Nadec Company. KWAR former president Royston Prabhu, Gen. Secretary Nazeer Ahmed, Sports Secretaries Sathish Amin, Umesh Shetty and Prashath Shetty were present. ABC Cargo Riyadh was the main Sponsor of this tournament.  

Best Wicket Keeper, Fair Play Award, Best Bowler, Best Batsman etc prizes were given away. There were prizes also for luckiest Spectator and Special KWAR Volunteer award.

Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20. 

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter distributed Food Kits for Indian expatriates labors who were in trouble due to Corona lockdown on April 6, 2020 at a labor camp here in Al Khobar.

The labors, most of them are from the staes of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh And Uttar Pradesh, were in trouble without food.

 Recieving the information leaders of Indian Social Forum immediately visited the camp to take survey.

Indian Social Forum with the help of donors distributed food kits. Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka Chapter president Mr.Mohammed Shareef Jokatte expressed gratitude for donors for their contribution.
