Udupi, Jul 17: A teenage girl committed suicide after she learnt that she had failed in the SSLC supplementary exams at Kadtala hamlet coming under the Ajekar police station limits in Udupi.
According to the police, Harshitha (16) had failed in the SSLC examinations held this year.
Hence she had applied and appeared for the SSLC supplementary exams. But when the results of the supplementary were declared, she had failed in it.
She went to her house and committed suicide by hanging, police said.
Mangaluru, May 3: An unidentified vehicle mowed down a 62-year-old security guard near Guruvayanakere, Belthangady taluk, on Saturday.
The deceased Lingappa Moolya was returning to his home in Guruvayanakere on a two-wheeler when the hit-and-run case took place. Police said he was hit by a truck. A guard at an ATM, Moolya was also an active member of the local Kulala Association.
A case was registered at Belthangady police station.
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 15: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan''s daughter Veena married top DYFI All India president Mohammed Riaz at the chief minister''s official residence in the presence of selected guests.
Riaz and Veena became husband and wife at a solemn function held under Covid protocols with not more than 50 people present.
This was the second marriage for both, as their first ones ended in divorce.
Riaz has two children, while Veena has a son from their respective previous marriages.
Riaz is a lawyer by profession and had contested the Kozhikode Lok Sabha seat in 2009 but lost to the Congress'' M.K.Raghavan.
Veena runs her own software company in Bengaluru.
While the marriage has already been registered recently, the wedding event was a closed door affair, with just very close relatives of the couple besides a few senior party colleagues of Vijayan.
Mangaluru, May 27: Karnataka’s twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today reported 11 and 9 fresh covid-19 cases respectively.
In Dakshina Kannada the covid-19 patients include seven women and four men who had recently come from Maharashtra.
One of the patients is a 3-year-old child. Others are girls aged 11 and 17, women aged 36, 37, 45, 59 and men aged 22, 35, 39 and 46.
All of them have been shifted to covid-19 hospital from different institutional quarantine centres.
In Udupi too all the nine people – six men, a boy, and two women - had come from Maharashtra a few days ago.
