Udupi, Jul 17: A teenage girl committed suicide after she learnt that she had failed in the SSLC supplementary exams at Kadtala hamlet coming under the Ajekar police station limits in Udupi.
According to the police, Harshitha (16) had failed in the SSLC examinations held this year.
Hence she had applied and appeared for the SSLC supplementary exams. But when the results of the supplementary were declared, she had failed in it.
She went to her house and committed suicide by hanging, police said.
Bengaluru, May 18: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge on Monday slammed the State Government’s decision to appoint administrative committees to Panchayats, which completes their five-year term, shortly.
Speaking to media persons, the Congress leader described the State Government’s decision on appointing committees as a ‘death knell ‘ to the basic characters of the Panchayat bodies, which were elected on a non-party basis.
Strongly recommending the BJP-led government to desist from its decision, Kharge urged Chief minister B S Yediyurappa to extend the term of the elected bodies of the Panchayats by six months.
Kasaragod, May 30: Karnataka origin IPS officer D Shilpa has been appointed the new Superintendent of Police of Kasargod district.
The 35-year-old 2016-batch IPS officer is the first woman SP of Kasaragod.
Her appointment follows the sudden transfer of P S Sabu who was hitherto holding the post. He has now been appointed as SP of Alappuzha.
Shilpa has earlier served as ASP of Kasargod. She was also ASP of Kannur during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Shilpa was one of the three IPS officers assigned to Kasaragod with IG Vijay Sakhare during the first phase of covid lockdown.
A native of HSR Layout in Bengaluru, Shilpa holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
Mangaluru, Jan 18: The Dakshina Kannada District Karavali Utsava Samiti has chosen senior Journalist and Assistant Editor on Udayavani Daily Manohar Prasad for the Karavali Gaurava Prashasti 2019-20.
The award will be presented to Manohar Prasad in recognition of his contribution in the field of Journalism.
He will be given the award during the valedictory of the Karavali Utsav at Panambur beach on January 19.
