Udupi, Jul 17: A teenage girl committed suicide after she learnt that she had failed in the SSLC supplementary exams at Kadtala hamlet coming under the Ajekar police station limits in Udupi.
According to the police, Harshitha (16) had failed in the SSLC examinations held this year.
Hence she had applied and appeared for the SSLC supplementary exams. But when the results of the supplementary were declared, she had failed in it.
She went to her house and committed suicide by hanging, police said.
Mangaluru, Aug 1: A teenage boy, who was critically injured in a road accident at Manchi village in Bantwal taluk, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city today.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Unais (17), a resident of Bolanthoor village.
The mishap occurred yesterday (July 31) at around 6 p.m. when Unais was riding a motorbike.
In his bid to overtake a speeding lorry near the Manchi mosque, the boy lost control over his motorbike, which first rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then collided with the same lorry.
The impact was such that the boy was thrown onto the road. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru.
He breathed his last early today without responding to any treatment.
A case has been registered at jurisdictional Melkar Traffic Police Station and investigations are on.
Mangaluru, Mar 23: In its efforts to contain the outbreak of COVID-19, the district administration has ordered that all shops and establishments selling essential commodities to remain open only between 0600 hrs and 1200 hrs from Tuesday till March 31.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, in a press release here, announced that autorickshaws and taxis should not ferry passengers and should be utilised only during emergencies and for transportation of essential commodities among others.

Mangalore, Jan 12: Thieves reportedly stole around 70,000 cash from a MESCOM ATP machine located at Chembugudde in Thokkottu, Police said here on Sunday.
Police said that the theft took place in the MESCOM sub-division office at Chembugudde. It was said that the thieves broke open the room where the MESCOM customers bill payment machine was located and stole 70,000 rupees cash from the ATP machine.
This machine had nine lakh rupees cash. The amount was reported to have been transferred at around 1500 hrs on Saturday.
