Udupi, Aug 17: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, on Wednesday  launched the ‘Swachh Udupi Mission–Countdown Begins’ programme organised by the district administration and the zilla panchayat here

C. Srinivasan, Project Director, India Green Services, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, unveiled a plan for making Udupi a garbage-free district byOctober 2, 2018, here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Srinivasan said that the segregation of waste would be done in a 30 % + 30 % + 30 % + 10% model. This would be implemented in all the 158 gram panchayats (GPs) and all four Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the district.

Under the first 30 %, big educational institutions, places of worship and big organisations would have to segregate their waste into organic and inorganic waste and dispose it off on their own premises.

In the second 30 %, haircutting saloons, chicken stalls, small eateries would have to segregate their waste. They would have to form their own associations as it would help in segregating and disposing of the garbage either by themselves or handing it over to self-help groups (SHGs).

The third 30% would deal with households. Each household would be provided with two buckets — green for putting organic waste and red for putting inorganic waste. This would be collected twice a day by SHGs at a price of just Rs. 3 per day. The last 10 % would comprise public spaces such as gardens whose cleanliness would be maintained by the authorities, he said.

Later, speaking to presspersons, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that already three gram panchayats, Varambally, Gangolli and Nitte, had been chosen for implementation of pilot project of Swachh Udupi. In these villages, 250 houses each would be chosen for the pilot project. The pilot project will go on for three months.

Once this was successfully implemented, it would be implanted in the remaining 155 gram panchayats. So too, it would be taken up in two wards each in all the four ULBs for the first three months, then implemented thoughout the ULBs in the next three months.

Bengaluru, Feb 25: Infosys is all set to announce a cyber defence centre in Indianapolis to complement its technology and innovation centre inaugurated early last year.

This will be Infosys' seventh global cyber defence centre. According to its recent cybersecurity report titled 'Assuring Digital Trust,' 83 per cent of executives view cybersecurity as critical, yet 67 per cent are still struggling to have security embedded.

The cyber defence centre will provide end-to-end, real-time, 24x7 cyber security monitoring and protection services to support and guide American businesses in their digital transformation journey, it said.

The facility is dedicated and organised to prevent, detect, assess and respond to cybersecurity threats and breaches.

Client environment will be monitored round the clock, adopting a follow-the-sun model to deliver services like 24x7 security monitoring, management and remediation, threat hunting, security analytics, incident discovery and response, compliance reporting and malware analysis.

Vishal Salvi, Chief Information Security Officer and Head of Cyber Security Practice at Infosys, said the cyber defence centre is staffed with expert security analysts with niche skills around threat research and intelligence gathering to deliver best-in-class services to customers.

"Additionally, advanced data analytics and machine learning models are deployed to detect zero-day threats by unknown threat actors. This supports our commitment to helping our customers build a resilient cybersecurity programme that operates at scale while increasing operational efficiency and reducing costs," he said in a statement.

Dubai, Jan 10: Indian expats in Dubai and the northern Emirates will now be able to get passports issued on the same day under certain conditions, including a higher fee, the Consulate here has announced.

Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul on Thursday announced that the Consulate will start issuing tatkal passports (issued in emergency cases) on the same day, the Gulf News said in a report.

Vipul made the announcement during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non Resident Indian-NRI Day) celebrations at the consulate.

He said the same day issuance service for tatkal passports can be availed only if the application is submitted before noon at the office of BLS International, the outsourced service provider for Indian passport and visa applications, in Al Khaleej Centre, Bur Dubai.

"We already issue tatkal passports in 24 hours. We are going one step beyond that. We are going to issue tatkal passport on the same day if it is applied for before 12 noon. By evening, we can issue the tatkal passport," the Consul General added.

The mission receives about 850 passport applications daily.

Last year, the consulate issued more than 200,000 passports, over 2500 emergency certificates (one-way travel document), over 2,800 police clearance certificates and provided 72,000 attestation services including registration of births and deaths, according to Vipul.

Mangaluru, June 10: The first direct repatriation flight from Damma to Mangaluru International Airport under Vande Bharat Mission will be operated on June 21.

Thousands of people from coastal districts of Karnataka are stranded without flights in different parts of Saudi Arabia after the announcement of covid lockdown in March this year.

Even though the government of India launched Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indian expatriate through special flights, no flight was scheduled from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru.

Several organisations had exerted pressure on the government of India and government of Karnataka to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia.

With the sole intention of helping the stranded Kannadigas, a few philanthropists in Saudi Arabia last month formed an NGO called Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum under the leadership of Zakariya Bajpe and Sheikh Expertise.
