Udupi, Jul 12: A 15-month-old girl child, who was reportedly kidnapped by a masked man from her house in Kumtiberu near Yedamoge in Kundapur taluk of Udupi yesterday, was found today.

The police sources said that the dead body of the toddler was found nearby by her house on Friday afternoon.

The toddler’s father Santosh Naik, who works as a security guard at a private pump house, was not at house when the toddler was kidnapped.

According to the child’s mother Rekha Naik, she was sleeping with her daughter beside her when a masked man opened the door and snatched her baby and fled crossing a river flowing near her house.

Though she tried to stop him by jumping into the water she could not, she told police in her statement. The couple has a five-year-old son.

A case was registered at Shankarnarayan station. The SP also had visited the spot and a team was formed to probe the case.

After the recovery of the dead body, the cops have converted the kidnap case into the murder case. They are investigating if the abductor murdered the girl child or she died of any other cause.

Mangaluru, May 4: Bunder Shramika Sangha (BSS) general secretary B K Imthiyaz on Monday urged the district administration to restart Bengre ferry and passenger boat services as it has affected the wholesale market in Old Port.

A majority of the labourers engaged in loading and unloading at the wholesale market in Old Bunder hail from Bengre area. Without the ferry service, the labourers cannot come to work, said Imthiyaz.

He said no positive cases had been reported from Bengre area. Thus, the district administration should give permission for operating ferry services between 7 am and 12 noon.

Jan 27: Bollywood Film Director Anurag Kashyap, who has been vocal about his political views on social media, slammed Union Minister Amit Shah and accused him of being 'cheap'.

"How timid our Home Minister is. Its own police, its own goons, its own army and security increases and invades unarmed protestors. Amit Shah has crossed the extent of cheapness and inferiority. History will spit on this animal," Kashyap tweeted.

The film director has taken an active part in the anti-Citizenship Act protest rallies and was against the Jawaharlal Nehru violence. He also came in support of his contemporary Deepika Padukone when the latter faced backlash for showing up at JNU in support of the students.
