Udupi: ISRO space exhibition at NMAMIT attracts students

Udupi, Sept 28: Students from various educational institutions participated in the two-day ISRO Space Exhibition at NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT) at Nitte in the district on Wednesday and Thursday.

A press release issued by NMAMIT here said that the exhibition is aimed at displaying the journey of ISRO. The exhibits include 10 satellite models made of brass. Video displays and also colour panels showing the journey of ISRO in space were the main attraction.

Another major draw was the demonstration of launch of a water rocket which was done by Guruprasad, Public Relations Executive, ISRO, Bengaluru.

It was a water rocket built using a bottle which was aerodynamically stable and its centre of gravity was concentrated at the extreme front. Earlier, speaking at the inaugural function, Mr. Guruprasad said that Indians must be proud of the achievements in the field of space science.

“We are the only country to accomplish Mission Mars in the first attempt. Perseverance is essential to achieve success,” he said.

In his presidential address, Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT, expressed his concern over lesser number of students opting for space research as their career. High school students should be given proper guidance about the opportunities in the field of space research, he said.

Ashok Adyanthaya inaugurated the space exhibition. Rekha Bhandarkar, convener of the programme, welcomed the gathering. Ananth A.G., Organising Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.

Kochi, Feb 29: A 36-year-old man admitted to a government hospital here died early on Saturday due to high fever, health officials said.

The test results of blood samples of the man admitted to the isolation ward of the Coronavirus patients at Kalamassery Medical College hospital had confirmed that he was not infected with the deadly virus, doctors said.

He had been suffering from pneumonia for last five days, they said.

He was a diabetic too. His end came at 12.30 am due to multi organ failure, they said.

Medical authorities said his samples have been sent for detailed examination at the NiV lab at Alappuzha and awaiting the results.

The man from Kannur district had returned from Malaysia on Friday with high fever and breathing problem.

He was referred to the hospital after he was diagnosed with serious health issues during a thermal screening for Coronavirus at the international airport here upon his arrival from Malaysia, they said.

Doctors had said the health condition of the patient was not satisfactory.

Ernakulam District Collector S Suhas had visited the patient at the hospital on Friday, officials said.

Kerala had reported India's three Coronavirus cases but all three had been discharged from the hospitals marking their recovery of all three cases of infection in India reported from Kerala.

New Delhi, Feb 24: India has deeply appreciated the Senegal government's decision to extradite fugitive gangster Ravi Poojary to India, official sources said on Sunday.

Facilitation of transit provided by the Government of France has also been acknowledged, they said.

Ravi Prakash Poojary, accused of committing a number of serious offences including murder and extortion in multiple jurisdictions, was extradited from Senegal on Saturday.

The probe agencies have persistently pursued the case for his extradition with the authorities in Senegal. India had made a request with Senegal for his extradition in early 2019, sources said.

Poojary was associated with gangster Chhota Rajan, but he also worked for fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Bengaluru, May 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday urged migrant workers to stay back as construction activities have resumed and also announced a Rs 1,610 crores COVID-19 financial package for the state.

The Chief Minister also said that close to one lakh persons, including migrant workers and students, among others, have so far been sent back to their home towns from Karnataka.

"We have sent around one lakh people in 3,500 buses and trains, back to their home towns. I have also appealed to migrant workers to stay as the construction work has resumed now," the Chief Minister said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"A package of Rs 1,610 crores will be released as COVID-19 financial relief. One time compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to 2,30,000 barbers and 7,75,000 drivers," he added.

During the course of the press conference, the Chief Minister also announced compensation for floriculturists in the state.
