Udupi, Apr 7: A case has been registered at the Kundapur police station against Rajiv Kotian, president of the Udupi district unit of the Janata Dal (United), for sending election messages on WhatsApp in alleged violation of poll code.
According to the police, as per the complaint registered by Manjunath Hegde, Model Code of Conduct Nodal Officer, he had received complaints that Mr Kotian was sending campaign messages related to his on WhatsApp for the Assembly elections violating the model code of conduct.
Hence a case had been registered based on his complaint, the police said.
On Thursday, an election squad team raided the house of a local political leader, on receiving a complaint that 50 saris had been stored in his house for distribution. But the leader explained that the saris had been purchased to be given as gifts at his son's thread ceremony function and produced bills for it and had also taken permission from the Returning Officer.
