Udupi man tortured in Africa returns to India after Sushma's intervention

Udupi, Jun 3: Anand Krishna Singh, who was allegedly tortured by his employer in Mozambique, has finally reached India following the intervention of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. attack

46-year-old Singh, who was working in a fast food centre in Udupi, had left for the Southeast African nation about two years ago in pursuit of greener pastures.

Recently he was accused of theft and assaulted by his employer in Mozambique. His passport and other documents were also seized by his employer, and he was not paid for a few months.

Mr. Singh's relatives and friends contacted the embassy officials and tweeted to Ms. Swaraj, who replied: “High Commission has established contact with Mr. Anand and trying to resolve the issue.”

Vishwanath Kamath, a friend of Mr Singh in Udupi said that the lateer used to come to his gym at Kallianpur-Santhekatte. “He was a jovial and nice person,” he said. Mr. Kamath said that Mr. Singh was working in his brother-in-law's hotel and a fast food centre in Udupi. Singh hails from Alturu in Bengaluru.

Corona claims another cop's life in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Novel coronavirus has claimed another police officer's life here, official sources said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the deceased police officer attached to station in Whitefield division had collapsed in his home on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Police officer, working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, also reportedly suffered from breathing related problems, the sources said.

Raghavendra Kini is the new chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority

Udupi, June 26: BJP leader K Raghavendra Kini has been appointed as the new Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) by Government of Karnataka.

A well-known businessman, Raghavendra Kini is also serving as the president of Kunjibettu Consumers’ Multipurpose Co-operative Union.

Along with him, the State Government has appointed Suma Naika, Praveen Kumar Shetty and Kishor Kumar as members of the Authority.

Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium to be turned into covid care centre

Bengaluru, Jul 9: The M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium and the Bengaluru Palace in Karnataka will be converted into a COVID-19 care centre, informed the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Thursday.

The Bangalore International Exhibition Centre was also recently converted into a COVID-19 care facility by the state government amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

R Ashoka, the state's COVID management in charge said, "People of Bangalore need not panic. All necessary equipment and preparation are being arranged by the state. We have over 600 ambulances ready to take care of COVID patients."

As per the data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka now has a total of 28,877 COVID-19 cases, including 16,531 active cases and 11,876 recoveries.

470 people have died of the infectious virus in the state so far.
