Bengaluru, Dec 4: Last year, the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) — the first step towards landing undergraduate seats in premier technical institutions — was held at only three centres in Karnataka. This time, apart from those three cities, 14 new centres will host the exam.

The dates for the JEE (Main) are already out and more number of cities have been allowed to hold the computerbased examination this year. It will be held at 17 cities and towns across Karnataka.

Only three cities have been allowed to hold the test in the pen-and-paper format, along with the computer-based examination. JEE (Main) will be held at 17 cities and towns across Karnataka.

Last year, the exam was held only at Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Hubballi where it was both pen-and-paper and online. Coaching centres are on an overdrive to motivate students to go for the computer-based examination for mains too.

According to the examination brochure, the pen-and-paper-based exam will be held only in Bengaluru, Hubballi and Mangaluru; those willing to take offline exam will have to travel to these cities. The pen-and-paper format of JEE (Main) will be held on April 8. The computer-based exam will be held on April 15 and 16 in Bagalkote, Belagavi, Ballari, Bidar, Davanagere, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Hassan, Kolar, Manipal, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Tumakuru and Udupi.

Holding the pen-and-paper-based exam at a few centres could be a problem for students from rural areas," said YK Jayaramappa, CEO, BASE.

"It's good that there are more exam centres in Karnataka. I hope there could have been more offline centres too," JEE aspirant Muninarayanappa P added.

Some students like Trisha Balsore, from Bidar, are concerned about internet connectivity during examination. "I hope authorities have clarified over internet speed before deciding on the centres," she said.

"We are holding mock JEE (Main) online. Students are more comfortable with traditional offline exam but they are ready to adjust with the new system too. We are motivating students to take the computer-based examination so that things will be easier for them when they get to the next step — JEE (Advanced) — which is online-only test," Mahesh Yadav from ALLEN's Jayanagar branch, said.

"Students can take the mock exam either at our centre or from home," Jayaramappa said.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: BJP leader CP Yogeshwar has slammed Yediyurappa supporters and said the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is supporting BJP.

Speaking to the reporters, Yogeshwar said, "Congress president DK Shivakumar and Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, both are Yediyurappa supporters."

"His words seem to support the BJP. All that Kumaraswamy had said, during our government's rule, are happening including the officers they mentioned are being transferred. He has come forward to support BJP from the back door," Yogeshwar.

While reacting to allegations made by CP Yogeshwar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar has said that earlier Yogeshwar requested for State Legislative Council (MLC) member ticket and now such people are blaming me without any evidence. This shows his dishonesty to his party and the kind of person he is."

Bengaluru, Mar 11: The Insurance Regulatory Authority of India has asked insurers to settle all claims related to coronavirus expeditiously under existing health policies that provide for treatment of hospitalisation expenses.

It has also asked insurers to design products covering the cost of treatment of coronavirus that has fast spread across the world and also resulted in increasing number of infections in India. There has been over 3,000 deaths globally and 58 cases tested positive in India.

In order to provide need-based health insurance coverage, insurers are intro ducing products for various specific diseases, including vector borne diseases. "For the purpose of meeting health insurance requirements of various sections, insurers are advised to design products covering the costs of treatment for coronavirus," the IRDAI said in a circular.

The regulator said that under existing health insurance policies where hospitalisation is covered, not only the cases related to coronvirus disease (COVID-19) shall be expeditiously handled, but all the costs of admissible medic al expenses during the course of treatment, including the treatment during quarantine period, should be settled in accordance to the applicable terms and conditions of policy contract and the extant regulatory framework.

This would bring much needed relief to policy holders some of whom were facing difficulty in getting coverage for treatment takers to coronavirus. In the absence of clear information, a few hospitals were reportedly denying for forward such claims of policy holders to the insurers.

IRDAI has now said that all the claims reported under COVID-19 shall be thoro ughly reviewed by review committee before repudiating the claims. This would prevent blanket rejection of such claims.

But to get full claim for treatment of coronavirus, industry experts said, a person should be hospitalised at least for 24 hours. Most insurers do not c over outpatient treatment.
