Udupi, Jun 12: While the common man is hesitating to buy vegetables and fruits due to price rise, a businessman-cum-politician in Udupi has bought a Rolls Royce Ghost by paying Rs 5.8 crore in cash!

This is the first car in Udupi with such a high price. With this, Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj has earned the title of the “owner of the costliest car in Udupi district”.

The images of blue car bought by Mr Madhwaraj are being circulated on social by the curious residents of Udupi for past couple of days.

The luxury multi-utility vehicle was purchased in the name of Raj Fishmeal and Oil Company, owned by Mr Madhwaraj in Malpe.

The high seas sales price of the car is mere Rs 1.66 cror. The import duty of this car itself is Rs 2.89 crores. The total price includes Rs 10 lakh insurance, Rs 90 lakh RTO registration fee, Rs 19 lakh PDI and service charges, 2.66 lakh service tax and Rs 2.22 lakh customs clearance.

Mr Madhwaraj, who has built a new house at Kolalgiri on the outskirt of Udupi after becoming MLA, said that buying new foreign car was his dream.

“I have purchased this car from the money that I have earned honestly. I am not a corrupt politician,” he said responding to the queries.

Mysuru, Feb 26: The Pre-University Education Department was taking several measures to prevent paper leaks during the II PU examinations, scheduled to commence from March 4, a statement said on Tuesday.

Among the few measures that the board has chalked out, students would not be allowed to leave the examination hall till the last bell. In case of any emergency, the student could leave the exam hall but s/he would be required to surrender the question paper to authorities in the hall.

This is being done to ensure question papers aren’t circulated during exam hours by those who exit the hall before the last bell.
