Udupi, Mar 9: Days after police booked her for 'provocative' speech at a similar event, VHP leader Sadhvi Balika Saraswati has been invited by the outfit to attend its Udupi 'Virat Hindu Samajotsav' today.

The invitation comes after VHP International Working President Pravin Togadia was banned yesterday for a week from entering Udupi district of Karnataka for the Hindu Samjotsava rally.

The organisers have also invited VHP All India Secretary Surendra Kumar Jain as the main speaker at the function, VHP sources said.

Recently a case was slapped against Saraswati from Madhya Pradesh who was the key speaker at the Hindu Samajotsava held here on March 1 for allegedly disturbing communal harmony through her 'provocative utterances'.

All arrangements had been made for the programme to be held at the MGM ground at Udupi tomorrow, they said.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Annamalai and Deputy Commissioner R Vishal are camping in the town to monitor the security arrangements for a peaceful conduct of the event.

Meanwhile, Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik alleged at a press meet today that the state government was hurting the sentiments of Hindus by banning Togadia's entry.

He also said that a ban on Hindu leaders from attending functions was aimed at suppressing the efforts of Hindu outfits to unite the community.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 11: In a unique form of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a bridegroom in Kerala, Haja Hussain, came for his wedding ceremony riding on a camel holding an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) poster in his hands, on the outskirts of the capital city on Monday.

Accompanied by a large crowd mostly comprising his friends and relatives, Hussain carried a placard which read "Reject CAA, Boycott NRC and NPR" as he arrived at the wedding hall in Vazhimukku, about 20 km from Thiruvananthapuram, on a camel back.

Haja Hussain said that he chose to do this to express his protest against the CAA.

"Along with the ' mahr' (the custom where the groom hands over gold or money to the bride), I also gave a copy of the Constitution. CAA should be rejected," said Haja Hussain, who is a local businessman.

Shivamogga, Jun 30: The organic farmers' market in Shivamogga in Karnataka has seen a rise in the demand for organic fruits and vegetables in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Residents of nearby areas frequently visit the market to get fresh produce.

According to Sridhar, a farmer who sells his produce in the market, the demand for organic fruits and vegetables was very low before the coronavirus outbreak.

"I have been involved in organic farming for the last two decades but there was no real market. Since these days everyone is trying to boost their immunity, we are getting a lot of positive response from the locals," he told news agency.

Sridhar and other farmers come from villages near the city. They are authentic organic farmers under the Vikas Trust and Savayava Krishi Parivar, a federation of organic farmer's families based in Karnataka, and they promote pesticide and fertiliser free agriculture.

Gurumel Singh, who often comes to the local market said, "My family has started eating more organic fruits and vegetable now because of the pandemic. We have been told it is important to take care of our health and organic fruits and vegetables are good immunity boosters. The fruits I buy from the organic market are also much sweeter than the ones I get elsewhere."
