Mangaluru, Apr 29: In the wake of worsened internal clashes at the historic Sayyid Shareeful Madani Dargah, unidentified miscreants have desecrated the graves of the parents of a prominent politician in Ullal.

The images of destroyed headstones or markers placed over the graves of Late UT Fareed and Naseema Fareed, the parents of local MLA and health minister UT Khader, went viral on WhatsApp on Friday.

It could be recalled here that a group of miscreants had raised slogans against UT Khader and used abusive words against him in the premises of Ullal Darga following the bickering among the management committee members of the Dargah.

The trouble started following the appointment of an ad-hoc president for Ullal Dargah committee earlier this week, which led to clashes between followers of two groups of Dargah devotees.

either minister or common people , writings on graves , building permanent structures not allowed in islam, muslims should avoid it... people can not show their anger by destroying such things, or degrading graves... only fools and ignorant muslims only can do such things... those fighting for power, should understand that you are fighting for unlawful money , dargha itself is un islamic thing for muslims... Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) ordered to destroy such dargahs, muslims also follow that way only...

Whoever did this job is highly condemnable at the same time being a well wisher of U.T.Khader we are expecting our Minister to act fairly in the trouble unfolding in Ullal dargah. He is taking wrong side by siding with SSF people against the wishes of people of Ullal. It was clear by recent election to Dargah Committee majority of 27 out of 49 members elected a president instead of supporting people verdict sending government official of waqf at mid night to lock the Dargah chamber is highly condemnable.

Mandya, Jun 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised an 83-year-old farmer from Malavalli taluk in Mandya district of Karnataka for his efforts in water conservation.

While urging the people to focus on saving water, Modi, in his 'Man Ki Baat' on All India Radio quoted Kamegowda from Dasna Doddi village who single handedly dug small 16 ponds over the years in his farm land and in nearby hill while taking his animals for grazing.

"Kamegowda ji is an ordinary farmer, albeit possessing an extraordinary personality. He has achieved a personal feat that will leave anyone awestruck! Kamegowda ji, aged 80-85 takes out his animals for grazing but at the same time he has taken it upon himself to build new ponds in his area", the PM said in his Mann Ki Baat, a monthly radio address on Sunday.

To overcome problems of water scarcity in the area, Gowda started building small ponds. Thereby, he contributed a lot for water conservation, the PM said.

"... An octagenerarian like Kamegowda ji, till now, has dug 16 ponds through his hard work and the sweat of his brow. It is possible that the ponds he has constructed may not be very big but then his efforts are huge. Today, the entire area has got a new lease of life on account of these ponds," the PM said.

A little effort by us helps nature and environment quite significantly. Many of our countrymen are putting extraordinary efforts in this endeavour, the PM said.

Kamegowda, used to take his sheep and goats to nearby hill for grazing. After finding no water to sheeps, he started digging ponds to address water scarcity. With collection of rain water, these lakes are brimming with water even during peak summer.

Bengaluru, May 22: Police commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Friday said the next two Sundays will be ‘full curfew days’ and the city will be under complete lockdown between 7pm Saturday and 7am Monday.

Addressing the media, the top cop said all essential services will be excluded from the curfew. “People attending weddings and other ceremonies can travel. Those wanting to buy food products or medicines too can step out. However, like in lockdown 1.0, people found loitering unnecessarily will be punished,” he said.

According to Rao, city roads will be barricaded like how it was done during lockdown 1.0 and 2.0.

A senior police officer told TOI that during this period, vehicles could be seized under the Disaster Management Act-2005. “So, we request the public not to come out unnecessarily. If we find people roaming in vehicles, we shall seize the rides and owners will have to approach the court later to get them released,” he said.

The government has extended the lockdown till May 31, which includes two Sundays.
Earlier in the day, the state government allowed inter-state travel from Karnataka with the consent of the receiving state. Praveen Sood, Karnataka DG and IGP, said, “Inter-state pass is not required to go out of Karnataka as long as you have the consent of the receiving state. Due to the lockdown, migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons are stranded at different places. They would be allowed to move as usual.”

According to officials, buses started plying from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hubballi and other areas with limited passengers. A bus, which left for Bengaluru from Mangaluru had less than 30 passengers on board.

“Depending on the demand, the buses will be operated with 50% of the capacity. Measures have been taken to ensure that social distancing norms are adhered to while purchasing tickets from the counter,” said S N Arun, KSRTC Divisional Controller.

However, the KSRTC is yet to take a decision on operating Nagarasarige buses in the city.

“Only those destinations, which can be reached by 7 pm has been considered by the KSRTC while operating the buses. As a result, after 11 am, no buses will travel to Bengaluru from Mangaluru.
