Ullal: Mob drags murder accused from police custody, thrashes him

Mangaluru, Oct 24: A mild tension prevailed in Ullal area on Monday night when a mob thrashed a murder accused in the presence of police.

Abdul Mutalib, 23, is an accused in the murder of fisherman Rajesh Kotian in 2016. Police said people of the area had earlier complained that Abdul was consuming ganja at public places.

Residents alleged that Abdul, after securing bail in the Rajesh Kotian murder case, used to harass and trouble people in the vicinity and damage their houses and shops. For some time he had gone underground and surfaced on Monday.

Public who learnt about his presence rushed to his house where a big crowd had gathered.

Police took Mutalib into custody. The restless crowd gheraoed the policemen and demanded that Abdul be handed over to them. They dragged him from their custody and thrashed him. In the meele, a constable was injured.

Abdul was treated at a private hospital and produced before the court on Tuesday. A case has been registered at Ullal police station.

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today. 

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony. 

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru Director CS Patil said that good rainfall is expected in few districts during next five days.

The districts likely to receive rainfall include Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu. All these districts had received deficit rainfall till date from June 1.

"From June 1 to till date Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts received deficit rainfall. However, there is an expectation of good rainfall in these districts in next 5 days," said CS Patil.

"Coastal districts are very likely to experience light to moderate to widespread rainfall activity during the next five days," he added.

Mysuru, Mar 24:m who returned from foreign travel and flouted home quarantine guidelines has been arrested in Mysuru on Monday. 

The man, who returned from Australia, had a seal on his hand but was roaming around the city. 

According to police, he was supposed to be under home quarantine till April 6. V V Puram Police took him into custody.
