Unable to qualify, IAS aspirant commits suicide in New Delhi's Ber Sarai area

New Delhi, Feb 27: An Indian Administrative Services (IAS) aspirant committed suicide by hanging himself in Ber Sarai area here, after having failed the exam.

The victim, identified as Samrat Chauhan, was allegedly depressed after having failed the examination and decided to hang himself, as per his suicide note.

"I used to talk to him every day at 8.30 pm. Today, I got really worried when I did not get a call from him. When I reached here and saw the whole scene, my heart just stopped. His depression was a reason for this," Hari Om, the deceased's father said.

Soon after news of the suicide reached the police, an ambulance and doctors rushed to the spot, where Samrat was pronounced dead. A forensic team also arrived at the spot to collect evidence and photographs.

The body of the victim has been sent to Safdarjung Hospital here for postmortem, and the police are conducting further investigation.

Thrissur, Jun 11: Volunteers of People for Animal Welfare Services rescued a dog that had its mouth sealed with insulation tape around it for two weeks in Ollur of Thrissur district.

The dog has now been shifted to an animal shelter home.

Recently two elephants died in Kerala. One pregnant elephant died after consuming crackers wrapped in some fruits in Palakkad.

Another elephant died in Malappuram after it was found seriously injured in North Nilambur forest range of the district.

Pilibhit, Apr 3: Two men were mauled to death by a tiger in the vicinity of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve here, an official said on Friday.

The incident happened in Richhaula Chowki of Gajraula area in the district on Thursday night when Ninder Singh (50) and his servant Dorilal (28) were sleeping on their agricultural field, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Naveen Khandelwal told reporters.

The tiger also dragged them for over 500 metres, he said.

The forest department came to know about the incident when they were informed about it by Ninder's brother after which teams of police, district administration and forest department reached there.

The tiger was tranquillised on Friday by the forest department team and will be sent to Lucknow Zoo.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22:An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act jumped into the sea on Wednesday morning when he was taken for evidence collection at Kasaba in Kasargode district, police said.

Accused Mahesh was arrested following a complaint by his neighbour on Tuesday evening.

The police said that they took the accused to the seashore to collect evidence in the case when Mahesh jumped into the sea. Two police officials too jumped in after him to catch hold of him but could not locate Mahesh.

Later, swimmers were deployed to try and locate the missing man.
