Union ministers assigned for BJP work in Karnataka to tour districts

New Delhi, Sep 19: Two Union ministers --Prakash Javadekar and Piyush Goel-- who have been deputed to Karnataka by BJP chief Amit Shah --are to undertake a tour of districts for feedback from district leaders and workers to fine-tune the party's election strategy.

Javadekar is to tour Hyderabad-Karnataka districts of Bidar, Kalburgi, Raichur, Yadagiri and Bellari for three days from September 21. Goel's programme will be announced later.

The Union HRD Minister said there has been an immediate improvement in the BJP's internal cohesion following party chief Amit Shah's interactions and dialogue with the state BJP leaders and workers last month.

"There is complete unity of purpose among the Team BJP, which is ready for the electoral battle as many issues have been sorted out at various levels," Javadekar told DH.

The HRD Minister recalled that he and Railway Minister Piyush Goel had the opportunity recently to listen to more than 200 party leaders who gave a number of suggestions and ideas on ways to improve the BJP's preparations."All their proposals were of positive nature and not one of them had made any negative suggestion or complaint against anyone. They want the party to win handsomely. Karnataka BJP is more united than before."

Refusing to go into details, Javadekar said "the unity of purpose will see BJP candidates are selected by the party's election committee on the basis of sheer merit. All apprehensions about one group or the other dominating the selection process will be misplaced."

He said the central thrust of the BJP campaign will be to highlight the "failures" of the Congress government in the state in the last five years as well as on what Karnataka can gain when the state starts implementing various programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government under the party's administration.

Javadekar said emotive issues that were sought to be raised by the Congress would not click as "the people of Karnataka are yearning for a total change and they will not appreciate the attempts to divide them on the basis of language, groups and sub-groups."

He said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's last-minute rollout of welfare schemes would not also alter the mood of the people, especially farmers and the poor people. "People are asking why the state government waited so long for these schemes."

"Our target is to win more 150 seats and Team BJP will sincerely work for that goal. There is new found confidence. Once our campaign moves into full gear, the people will sense the mood for a change in a more telling way," Javadekar said.

Javadekar said attempts to rake up issues like the imposition of Hindi by the BJP-led Centre would not cut ice as "our government respects all regional languages including Kannada."
