US Dollar 10,000 seized from passenger at Mangaluru Airport

Mangalore, Aug 19: A total of 10,000 US dollars were seized from a passenger en route to Dubai from Mangalore Airport, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said on Monday.

According to the CISF, foreign currency was recovered from a passenger, identified as Shashank Bysani Gupta, during the frisking process at the Mangalore airport.

"The passenger had concealed a bundle of foreign currency (5100 USD) in his trouser's pocket. When his handbag was searched thoroughly, an amount of 4900 USD was also found kept in a pouch," CISF said in an official statement.

The officials also added that the passenger along with confiscated currency 10,000 USD has been handed over to Customs officials for further necessary action.

Customs officials offloaded the passenger and an investigation in this regard is underway.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale jolted Karnataka on Friday morning while another with a magnitude of 4.7 was felt in Jharkhand.

The tremors were felt in Hampi (Karnataka) and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

According to NCS, the aftershocks were felt at 6:55 am in both the places today.

Mangaluru, Apr 21: An elderly woman from Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district has been diagnosed with covid-19, a deadly disease caused by coronavirus.

The state health and family welfare department, in its bulletin released on Tuesday morning, confirmed  that 67-year old woman suffering from covid-19.

The woman is said to be a neighbour of the woman from who died last Friday after being infected with coronavirus.

It is suspected that the virus reached elderly woman's body as she was in touch with the deceased.

The woman was admitted to Covid - 19 Hospital, Mangaluru, on the April 18 after she developed breathing problem. It is learnt that she is responding to the treatment

Bengaluru, Aug 4: As the stage is set for the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram temple construction at Ayodhya on Wednesday, retired Supreme Court judge N Santosh Hegde has called for the promotion of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence and respect for different faiths.

"It is a good idea to make that as an object of the temple so that there can be peace in the world," the former Solicitor General of India said when asked if the temple should be promoted as a symbol of national integration, and social and communal harmony.

Hegde said one of the most dangerous things for conflict today is religion. "In that background, there should be some effort from somebody or other to bring about peaceful coexistence, respecting each religion," the former Karnataka Lokayukta told PTI on Tuesday. "It is a good idea to start Bhumi Pujan as an indicator of that or foundation for developing harmony among various religions," he added.

The Supreme Court had in November last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a Trust at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Ayodhya. It also directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5- acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted a five-acre land in Dhannipur village in Sohaval Tehsil of Ayodhya for the mosque's construction.
