‘Utterly fishy. Unbelievable. Siddhartha called me on July 28. He wanted to meet me’: D K Shivakmuar

Newsroom, Jul 30: Congress veteran and Vokkaliga stalwart D K Shivakumar has expressed suspicion over the circumstances that led to the mysterious disappearance of V G Siddhartha, owner of the popular coffee chain Cafe Coffee Day.

Search operation has been intensified today after Siddhartha, who asked his driver to stop his car on Netravati bridge near Tokkottu on the outskirts of Mangaluru and went missing last night. Reports doing rounds that he jumped off the bridge.

Meanwhile a letter attributed to Siddhartha, wherein he says that says he’s ‘sorry to let down all the people’, started going viral on social media.

Reacting to the letter, Shivakumar said that it was "unbelievable" that a "courageous" man like him "would resort to this".

"The letter purportedly written by Shri V G Siddhartha which is circulating is dated July 27th. I received a call from him on the 28th asking if we could meet up. It's unbelievable that a courageous man like him would resort to this, Shivakumar tweeted.

Saying that Siddhartha had been close to Shivakumar for "decades", he added, "However, I find this utterly fishy and urge that a thorough investigation be conducted into this matter."

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has raised question over disappearance of Siddhartha asking why a successful business tycoon was saying he had failed as an entrepreneur. Nirupam was quoting from Siddharatha's letter to his employees.

Karwar, May 29: A five-month-old baby girl was discharged from Kasturba Institute of Medical Sciences (KIIMS), Mangaluru after her successful recovery from Covid-19 on Friday.

The baby was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru in the third week of April for the treatment of epilepsy and on May 8, the baby, her parents tested positive for Covid-19 and they were also admitted. It is said that they contracted the virus from their 18-year-old relative.

Although the parents were discharged from KIMS on May 23, since the baby had epilepsy, doctors continued the treatment for 19 days.

Mangaluru, Jan 29: The police have registered a suo motu case against some of the youths who raised life threat slogans against former Karnataka Minister and Congress MLA UT Khader during the pro-Citizenship Amendment Act rally here on January 27.

A video of the incident that went viral on social media showed the youths belonging to BJP and other saffron outfits raising slogans that they will “cut off his limbs and chop off his head if necessary” during the rally organised by the BJP in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act on Monday.

Though Mr Khader did not file a complaint, the Congress party had urged the police to register a suo motu case.

Bengaluru, Jun 27: A Karnataka government employee on SSLC exam duty at a school in Pavagada, Tumakuru district, on Friday tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the education department to send all staff members of the exam centre on quarantine.

“No student has been affected. All the staff has been replaced,” said R Umashankar, principal secretary, education department.
