Newsroom, Jul 30: Congress veteran and Vokkaliga stalwart D K Shivakumar has expressed suspicion over the circumstances that led to the mysterious disappearance of V G Siddhartha, owner of the popular coffee chain Cafe Coffee Day.

Search operation has been intensified today after Siddhartha, who asked his driver to stop his car on Netravati bridge near Tokkottu on the outskirts of Mangaluru and went missing last night. Reports doing rounds that he jumped off the bridge.

Meanwhile a letter attributed to Siddhartha, wherein he says that says he’s ‘sorry to let down all the people’, started going viral on social media.

Reacting to the letter, Shivakumar said that it was "unbelievable" that a "courageous" man like him "would resort to this".

"The letter purportedly written by Shri V G Siddhartha which is circulating is dated July 27th. I received a call from him on the 28th asking if we could meet up. It's unbelievable that a courageous man like him would resort to this, Shivakumar tweeted.

Saying that Siddhartha had been close to Shivakumar for "decades", he added, "However, I find this utterly fishy and urge that a thorough investigation be conducted into this matter."

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has raised question over disappearance of Siddhartha asking why a successful business tycoon was saying he had failed as an entrepreneur. Nirupam was quoting from Siddharatha's letter to his employees.

Udupi, Jun 5: Senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlje accused members of Tablighi Jamaat of spreading Coronavirus, particularly in slums, in Bengaluru.

Speaking to newsmen here Friday night, she said that the members had intentionally spread the virus in Siddique Layout and Padarayanapura. Members had hatched a conspiracy to destroy the country. She would raise the issue with the central government.

She said that New Delhi and Maharashtra were responsible for rising Covid-19 cases in the country. Highlighting the programmes, introduced by Modi-led NDA government for the past six years, she blamed Covid-19 for the collapse of the economy. But for Covid-19 Modi government at the Centre would have been a leader in the world,” she added.

She said 13,541 people, stranded in other States and foreign countries, had returned to Udupi. “We have sufficient beds in the district to tackle the situation. But if more people decide to travel to Udupi, arranging quarantine facilities would be a huge challenge,” she added.

Bengaluru, Jan 1: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah on Wednesday slammed the Centre on the issue of fare hike announcement by Indian Railways.

"Increase in Train fares is a New Year gift by Narendra Modi government to common people," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

"This will further dent the developmental prospects as Railways form a backbone of Transportation. Instead, the govt should have gifted us the values of our Constitution by upholding it," he added.

The Bill, which states that Indians should not exceed 15 percent of the population, was determined as constitutional by the National Assembly, local media reported.

It will soon be transferred to the respective committee so that a comprehensive plan is created.

Expats account for 30 lakh of Kuwait's 43 lakh population. Indian community constitutes the largest expat community in Kuwait, totalling 14.5 lakh.

The move comes as the number of Covid-19 cases has spiked in the country, with 49,000 cases being reported so far.
