Vatal Nagaraj, supporters arrested during protest at Suvarna Soudha

Belagavi, Nov 22: Kannada activist and former MLA Vatal Nagaraj was arrested along with his supporters during a protest in front of Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on Wednesday. Police removed them from the venue and released them later.

Mr. Vatal was protesting against neglect of issues concerning northern Karnataka in the winter session of the Assembly, delay in release of funds for Hyderabad Karnataka development, over 70 per cent of MLAs remaining absent for most of the Belagavi session

Delay in decision over Mahadayi and Kalasa-Banduri, under-utilisation of the Suvarna Soudha, non-shifting of government departments to Belagavi and alleged appeasement of Marathi leaders like MES MLA Sambhaji Patil by the State government were some of the other issues raised by Mr Nagaraj.

He sought release of a white paper on the development of north Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka.

Dec 19 Mangaluru violence: Final chance for eyewitness to register statements on Feb 6

Mangalore, Feb 4: Final chance to present evidence and record eyewitness statements with the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi G Jagadeesh regarding the December 19 violence will be held on February 6 between 1100 and 1300 hrs.

Eyewitness and evidence presenters can depose at the Assistant’s Commissioner’s Court Hall in the Mini Vidhan Soudha in the city.

The Deputy Commissioner said that no evidence would be accepted after this last round of public hearing.

Nearly 30 injured as Mangaluru-Bengaluru bus falls into trench

Puttur, Jan 4: As many as 27 passengers travelling in a private bus escaped with minor injuries after it toppled and fell into a roadside trench at Amai near Perne on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway last night, police said on Saturday.

Police said that the driver of the Bengaluru-bond bus lost control over the vehicle while traversing through the narrow bridge at Amai.

The bus was damaged in the mishap.

10 more COVID-19 cases in Karnataka; total 207

Bengaluru, Apr 10: With 10 new COVID-19 cases, Karnataka's tally of coronavirus cases has climbed to 207, the Karnataka government has said.

The 207 COVID-19 cases include 30 discharged and 6 deaths. Out of 10 new cases, 9 are close contacts of people who had earlier tested positive for coronavirus.

"10 more COVID-19 positive cases reported in Karnataka, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 207, including 6 deaths and 30 discharged. 9 of the 10 new cases, are close contacts of people who had tested positive for the virus earlier," said the Karnataka government.

Meanwhile, the State Department of Health and Family Welfare has further notified 14 more COVID-19 dedicated hospitals in the state.

These hospitals include Bagalkot District Hospital, Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, District Hospital Chikkaballapur, SNR District Hospital, Kandaya Bhavan Ramanagar, Tumkur District Hospital, Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences Uttara Kannada, Vijayapura District Hospital and Yadgiri District Hospital.

India's total number of coronavirus positive cases rose to 6,412 on Friday.

Out of the total cases, 5,709 are active patients and 503 of them have been cured/discharged, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With 30 new deaths reported in the last 12 hours, the toll stands at 199.
