Vessel with 1500 Kg of Heroine worth over Rs 3K-cr seized off Gujarat coast

Ahmedabad, Jul 31: In the biggest ever haul of narcotics drugs, transported through sea routes in recent times, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ships Samudra Pavak and Ankit intercepted and apprehended a merchant vessel off the coast of Gujarat based on intelligence input. 1500 Kg of Heroine worth more than Rs 3000 crore was seized from the vessel named PRINCE 2.

The search operation for the suspect vessel at sea was commenced by the ships and aircraft of the Coast Guard on July 27.  A vast area of the sea was kept under continuous surveillance by Regional Operating Centre and Remote Operating Station at Coast Guard Regional and District Headquarters located at Gandhinagar and Porbandar respectively. 

The movements of all ships in the area including the suspect vessel were minutely observed throughout till its apprehension along with eight crew members by ICG ships on pm 29 Jul 17. 

The information about the carriage of contraband by the suspect ship was shared by NTRO and other Intelligence agencies with the Coast Guard based on which the operation was planned and executed.

The apprehended ship was brought to Porbandar on 30 Jul 17 and will be jointly investigated by the ICG, IB, Police, Customs, Navy and other agencies.

New Delhi, Feb 12: Unidentified people opened fire at the convoy of the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party legislator Naresh Yadav in Southwest Delhi when he and his supporters were returning home after visiting a temple after his victory, killing a party volunteer, police and a senior AAP leader said.

The firing incident happened in Kishangarh village late Tuesday night.

Police said they have detained a person for questioning and the incident appears to be a case of personal enmity. Sources said seven rounds were fired at the MLA's convoy.

Another person injured in the incident has been admitted to a hospital.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh identified the dead party volunteer as Ashok Mann.

“Convoy of MLA Naresh Yadav attacked in Mehrauli, Ashok Mann killed. Naresh Yadav was returning home after visiting a temple,” Singh said in a tweet in Hindi.

“At least one volunteer has passed away due to bullet wounds. Another is injured,” AAP tweeted.

Ankit Lal, AAP's social media in-charge, added that miscreants in another car opened fire on the MLA's convoy near Fortis Hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Ayodhya to lay the foundation of the Ram temple. He participated in the bhoomi poojan rituals at the temple site and offered prayers. He will shortly lay the foundation of the temple with a sliver brick.

From Varanasi to Tamil Nadu, many devotees have sent gifts for the ceremony, like silver bricks and coins.

Special prayers were started on Monday and will culminate with the PM laying the foundation stone for the temple. The city has been decorated with paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana. The Uttar Pradesh government has also made elaborate security arrangement for the event.

Apart from the state police, the NSG commandos have also been kept on stand-by. The invitations for the ceremony have been kept limited due to the coronavirus pandemic. Veteran BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi will witness the event from New Delhi via video-conferencing.

New Delhi, April 6: India recorded the highest number of 704 positive cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.

With these new cases, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India have now climbed to 4,281.

Total deaths stand at 111 including 28 new deaths. So far, 318 COVID-19 patients have been cured across the country.
