VHP 'embezzled' Rs 1,400-cr in the name of Ram Mandir, reveals Nirmohi Akhara

Lucknow, Nov 17: In a startling revelation, Nirmohi Akhara, a party in the Ram Mandir dispute, has claimed that the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has embezzled Rs 1,400 crore in the name of the Ayodhya temple.

Nirmohi Akhara member Sitaram alleged that the money had been collected in the garb of donation. “Nirmohi Akhara has never sought any kind of money from anyone. The VHP, on the other hand, took money as donations from people for the construction of the temple. They instead used this money to construct their own buildings.”

“We are the main party in the issue and these politicians just want to hijack the entire issue for vested interests. They have even formed a government using that money. Not a single penny was used for the Ram Mandir cause. It looks like politicians have collected notes and votes in the name of Ram Mandir, but don’t want to do anything about it,” Sitaram alleged.

Refuting the allegations, VHP leader Vinod Bansal said the outfit has accounted for “every penny” since formed in 1964.

The heated exchange came amid a visit by spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to Ayodhya to talk to all stakeholders and mediate in the dispute.

Dr Arathi Krishna writes to aviation minister seeking more flights to repatriate Kannadigas from Gulf

Bengaluru, May 17: Amidst mounting demand form Kannadigas across the world for repatriation flights in the wake of covid-19 lockdown, Dr Arathi Krishna, former Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka government, has written to Hardeep Singh Puri Minister of Civil Aviation to operate more special flights to Gulf repatriate Kannadigas from gulf countries.

Dr Arathi Krishna’s first request in the letter was to add flights from Kuwait, Bahrain and Jeddah to Bengaluru as many (from Karnataka) are stranded in these cities in precarious situations.

In addition, she also requested for a couple of flights from Dammam and Riyadh to Bengaluru as there are more than 3780 Kannadigas registered to return from Saudi Arabia and members of Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry are requesting the same. Any number of flights from Dubai to Bengaluru and Mangaluru will also help the stranded people, the letter stated.

“Old and sick people, pregnant women and others are in urgent need to connect with the world are looking up to you for getting flights from different comers of the world. Indian communities are hopeful that you will use your position to help them to get the much needed mobility at this time,” the letter stated.

She also said that the people in Karnataka are grateful to you (Mr Hardeep Singh Puri) for adding two flights from Dubai to Bengaluru in the last two schedules and one flight each from Riyadh, Dammam, Muscat and Doha.

Dr Arathi Krishna is currently serving as the Chairman of the NRI Cell of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and Secretary of Indian Overseas Congress.

Writer Richie John Pais bags best Konkani book award

Udupi, Jan 22: Writer Richie John Pais will be conferred with the Best Konkani Book Award, instituted by Dr T M A Foundation in recognition of his contribution made to Konkani Language and Literature.

According to a statement, the Award carries Rs 10,000 in cash and a citation.

‘Fathor’, a collection of Konkani short stories authored by Richie John Pais was published in 2017 has been chosen for the Dr TMA Foundation Best Konkani Book Award 2018.

These private hospitals in Mangaluru and Udupi can now treat covid patients

Mangaluru, Jun 21: A total of 51 private hospitals and medical colleges empanelled under the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST) have been allowed to treat Covid-19 patients in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district. Among them 30 are in Dakshina Kannada and 21 are in Udupi. Here is the full list:
