VHP urges Modi govt to ban 'immoral' ads, shows

Mangaluru, Dec 30: Raunchy ads and bold TV shows and web series are in the line of fire of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. On the concluding day of its three-day Central Council meeting held in Mangaluru, the VHP expressed its strong reservation against "immoral advertisements" and shows and demanded a ban on them.

"There has been a deterioration of Hindu values in the society, which has resulted in the incidences of women being targeted," noted a VHP statement.

"Some television shows... immoral advertisements and films have also been one of the reasons for today''s situation in the society," it said, urging the government to strictly deal with such serials, webseries, and advertisements and even "ban them".

The VHP said such shows and ads are contributing to creating an unsafe atmosphere for women. "In Hindu society, women are worshipped and are not treated as commodity," it said.

The VHP has also demanded that the benefit of Article 29-30 be extended to all communities, including those practising Hindu faith. The VHP claimed that the discrimination is based on appeasement.

Talking about alleged appeasement, the VHP for the second day in a row has lashed out at the Andhra and Telangana governments. It claimed that the taxpayers money is used to find salaries of minority priests.

On Ram temple, the VHP has decided to hold nationwide Ram Utsav next year. The decision has been made to celebrate it in all villages, said the VHP.

"VHP has decided to hold big Sabhas in every village and mohalla of our country. It would initiate programmes portraying the life and principles of Lord Ram which need to be inculcated in today''s society," said the VHP.

In the three-day VHP Central Council and Pranyasi Mandal meeting, many delegates from the UK, USA and Asian countries participated.

Various points related to the Society, Nation and Hindu Dharma were discussed.

"We strongly object to paying salaries and other emoluments to ''moulavis'' and Christian priests with funds generated by the Hindu taxpayers. On the other hand, things have been made expensive for Hindu pilgrims," alleged the VHP.

India bans 47 more Chinese apps; over 250 under scanner: Report

New Delhi, Jul 27: A month after banning 59 Chinese applications, the government of Indian has now reportedly banned 47 more apps of Chinese origin in the country. According to sources, the 47 banned Chinese apps were operating as clones of the earlier banned apps.

The list of the 47 Chinese applications banned by the Indian government will be released soon.

India has also prepared a list of over 250 Chinese apps, including apps linked to Alibaba, that it will examine for any user privacy or national security violations, government sources said. The list also includes Tencent-backed gaming app PUBG.

Some top gaming Chinese applications are also expected to be banned in the new list that is being drawn up, sources said. The Chinese applications, that are being reviewed, have allegedly been sharing data with the Chinese agencies.

Today's decision follows after a high-profile ban of 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, as border tensions continued in Ladakh after a violent, fatal face-off between the Indian and Chinese armies. The government said these apps were engaged in activities that were prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and defence of India.

A government press release announcing the ban stated: "The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it's power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order".

A day later, Google said it has removed all the banned applications from the Play Store. Following the ban, TikTok refuted the claims that suggest it will pursue legal action against the Indian government for banning the app in India.

Reacting to the 59 apps banned by India, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the country is "strongly concerned regarding the decision of the Indian government".

“China is strongly concerned, verifying the situation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"We want to stress that the Chinese government always asks Chinese businesses to abide by international and local laws-regulations. The Indian government has a responsibility to uphold the legal rights of international investors including Chinese ones," Zhao Lijian said.

Need a law to shoot at sight those raising anti-India slogans: B C Patil

Bengaluru, Mar 2: Karnataka Minister BC Patil on Monday repeated his earlier statements that he will approach the Centre to bring a law to "shoot at sight" anyone who raises anti-India slogans.

"I am not going back on my statement as I have not said anything wrong. I had said that I will ask the central government to bring a law to shoot at sight those who shout slogans against India. Nowadays it has become a fashion for some youths to get popularity this way which spoils the country and patriotism," Patil told reporters here.

"There is nothing wrong in asking for a law. I have not said that I will myself shoot someone who shouts slogans against India. If the same thing happens in Pakistan, they will be beheaded. But we are not so brutal, we book a case and send them to judicial custody," he added.

Patil also said that there was no need for holding discussions over the amended Citizenship Act, but added that the ruling BJP will defend it if the opposition raises a stir in the state Assembly.

The budget session of the Karnataka Assembly began on Monday.

When will be SSLC exam in Karnataka? Govt to take a call on May 18

Bengaluru, May 16: The Karnataka government is expected to take a call on Monday on holding the Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) or class 10 examination, which were postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar said there was a possibility that the state government may come out with a timetable on Monday. "We are holding a meeting regarding the SSLC examination," he told reporters here.

He also said there would be discussions on how to conduct the exams and precautionary measures to be taken in view of COVID-19.

"We have to make arrangements for masks, sanitisers and thermal scanners. We will set up a thermal scanner for a health check-up. We have to make separate seating arrangements for those having health issues. All these issues will be discussed on Monday," Kumar said.

The SSLC exams were supposed to commence from May 27 but due to the lockdown, it was postponed for an indefinite period.
