Video of doctor thrashing patient in Rajasthan hospital goes viral

Jaipur, Jun 4: A video purportedly showing a doctor thrashing a patient admitted at state-run SMS Hospital here has gone viral on social media, following which the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission sought a report on the matter from the hospital administration by June 25.

According to the hospital administration, patient Mubarik (30), hailing from Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Chandpole area here, was admitted at their facility on June 1 for a type of poisoning with gastritis, when he turned violent with the doctors.

The patient first manhandled a female doctor and when a male doctor and the patient's family tried to calm him down the patient, he started to physically fight with the rest, hospital authorities said.

"The video circulated on social media seems to be edited. A disciplinary committee will investigate the matter and a report will be submitted to the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission as well. The patient is now fit to be discharged," SMS Hospital Superintendent Dr D S Meena told news agency.

The incident occurred on June 1 but the matter came to light on Monday after the video started to trend online.

In the purported video, a doctor is seen slapping the patient in the ward where other patients were also undergoing treatment.

Taking cognisance of the video, Rajasthan Human Rights Commission sought report on the action taken by the hospital administration, saying that thrashing any patient is a severe crime.

With spike of 37,148 cases, India's COVID-19 tally reaches 11,55,191

New Delhi, Jul 21: With a spike of 37,148 cases and 587 deaths reported in India in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 11,55,191, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of cases include 4,02,529 active cases, 7,24,578 cured/discharged/migrated and 28,084 deaths, the ministry informed.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,18,695 cases and 12,030 deaths.
The second worst-hit state, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,75,678 COVID-19 cases so far while Delhi has reported 1,23,747 cases, according to the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, as per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,43,81,303 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to July 20. Of these 3,33,395 were tested yesterday.

Nirbhaya convict Mukesh Kumar moves mercy plea before President

New Delhi, Jan 14: One of the four Nirbhaya gang rape convicts, who are scheduled to be hanged on January 22, moved a mercy plea before President Ram Nath Kovind to set aside the death sentence issued against him.

He also moved the Delhi High Court to set aside the death warrant issued by a trial court. This hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before a bench of Justices Manmohan and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.

The petition, filed through advocate Vrinda Grover, seeks setting aside of the January 7 order issuing the warrant of his execution.

Bajrang Dal leader turned anti-Sangh Parivar crusader Mahendra Kumar dies of cardiac arrest

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Bajrang Dal's former Karantaka satate convenor Mahendra Kumar, who dedicated last decade of his life to expose the misdeeds and lies of Sangh Parivar, passed away today due to cardiac arrest here. He was 47 years old.

Kumar was undergoing treatment at Ramaiah hospital Bengaluru where he breathed his last today (April 25) morning. His final rites will be held in his hometown, sources said.

Kumar, who hailed from Koppa in Chikkamagaluru was a resident of Bengaluru.

He had reportedly involved in the 2008 attacks on Christians' places of worship in Mangaluru and Chikkamagaluru and had faced arrest for that.

However, he quit Bajrang Dal same year and the apologized to Christians. He joined Janata Dal (Secular) in 2011.

After quitting Bajrang Dal and adopting left ideology, he openly attacked the ideology of right-wing outfits.

He founded Jana Dhwani movement as a voice for the oppressed classes of the state. He used social media to attack the "manuvaad" for past one decade.
