Videocon bankrupt: Bids invited for debt-ridden firm under insolvency resolution process

New Delhi: The resolution professional of debt-ridden Videocon Industries on Tuesday invited bids from prospective buyers to take control of the firm, which has interest ranging from consumer electronics to oil and gas.

The corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) of Videocon Industries Ltd (VIL), which has debt of around Rs 20,000 crore, was commenced under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) following an order by the NCLT Mumbai on 6 June 2018.

In a public announcement, VIL Resolution Professional (RP) Anuj Jain said insolvency resolution process in respect of 11 group companies of VIL has also commenced and for other four other entities, order is expected to be passed by the NCLT shortly.

In the beginning of this year, the country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) had filed separate insolvency proceedings against Videocon Industries and Videocon Telecommunications Ltd.

As per the criteria listed out by the RP, corporates, individuals or consortium of investors must have a minimum consolidated net worth of Rs 2,000 crore at group level in the immediately preceding financial years, and turnover of Rs 1,000 crore at group level during any one of the three immediately preceding financial years.

For financial institutions, PE funds, asset reconstruction companies, NBFCs, other financial investors, including consortium of investors, minimum asset under management must be Rs 2,000 crore in the immediately preceding financial year or committed funds available for deployment/ investment of at least Rs 2,000 crore as on 31 March 2018.

It would be mandatory for prospective resolution applicants to submit their bid before 5 October 2018, Jain said in the announcement.

The RP also said prospective bidders must have evidence to showcase experience in the running of large industrial businesses, preferably consumer electronics, and/or oil and gas during any three of the preceding financial years.

The bidders must also have the ability to turnaround large industrial business preferably consumer electronics business either directly or through joint venture.

In its heydays, Videocon was known for its consumer durables business. It then diversified into oil and gas, DTH and telecom sectors, with the latter two ventures proving to be unsuccessful.

The company then sold off its DTH business to Dish TV and telecom business to Airtel.

The Videocon Group is under investigation for alleged quid-pro-quo over Rs 3,250 crore loan by ICICI bank to it in 2012. The bank had also ordered an independent probe into allegations of 'conflict of interest' and 'quid pro quo' in bank's MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar's role.

New Delhi, July 1: In a terrific incident with chilling echoes of the 2015 Dadri mob lynching, a Muslim man, who was carrying meat, was savagely attacked by a mob belonging to a saffron outfit in the presence of in BJP ruled Haryana on the eve of Eid al-Adha. 

The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Friday, July 31 at Badshahpur village in Haryana’s Gurgaon, when Lukman was transporting meat in a pic-kup truck. 

The attack was captured on mobile phones by onlookers and the video clips of the incident are now spreading on social media. 

A group of saffronite cow vigilantes chased the truck for about 8 km managed waylay it. Lukman, who was driving the truck was pulled out and brutally assaulted on the suspicion that he was transporting cow meat.

Just like Dadri, the police were faster at sending the meat to a lab for testing than catching any one of the suspects. One of the assailants - Pradeep Yadav- has been arrested. 

After being beating to an inch of his life, Lukman was bundled into the pick-up truck and taken back to Gurgaon's Badshahpur village where the goons started thrashing him again.

This is when the police stepped in and stopped them - only to find the assailants fearless enough to even take on them.

Lukman was taken to a hospital and the police filed a case against "unidentified individuals" even though the video of the incident recorded by witnesses shows the faces of the assailants.

The owner of the vehicles said that the meat was buffalo and he has been in the business for 50 years.

The police have so far refused to give a statement on record on the incident and explain their inaction as seen on video.

New Delhi, Feb 11: With Election Commission">Election Commission's trends indicating a landslide victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party chief Arvind Kejriwal expressed his gratitude towards the people of the national capital and said that this is the victory of the people who consider him as their son.

Making his first public appearance after the day's results, Kejriwal made a brief address to supporters in which, AAP chief thanked supporters, outlined his personal connection with citizens and party workers as well as credited his family for their continued support.

"I thank people of Delhi for reposing their faith in AAP for the third time. This is not my personal victory, this is the victory of Delhiites. This the victory of the people who consider me as their son and voted for us," Kejriwal said at party office here.

He also referred to the trends of the assembly polls, as the beginning of a new kind of politics.

"This is the beginning of a new kind of politics. This is a new sign. Only the party will get vote who will built mohalla clinics and good schools... This is the victory of mother India and India. Today is Tuesday, Hanuman-ji's day. Hanumanji ji blessed Delhi today, I thank him. We pray that Hanuman Ji keeps showing the right path to us so that we continue to serve people for the next five years," he said.

According to Election Commission", AAP won 5 seats while the party is leading on 58 seats in 70-member Delhi Assembly.

New Delhi, Jun 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India fared much better compared to some other countries in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The PM made this observation while delivering the inaugural address to mark the 90th birth anniversary celebrations of Reverend Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan.

"Earlier this year, some people had predicted that the impact of the virus in India would be very severe. Due to lockdown, many initiatives have been taken by the Government and in this people-driven fight, India is much better placed than many other nations. India's recovery rate is rising," Modi said in his virtual address.

He further warned that the time was not apt to "let our guard down".

The prime minister greeted the Mar Thoma Metropolitan and wished him a "long life and best health."

"Dr Joseph Mar Thoma has devoted his life for the betterment of our society and nation. He has been particularly passionate about the removal of poverty and women empowerment," the prime minister said.

Praising the Mar Thoma Church for its contributions to the country the Prime Minister added that it has worked to bring a positive difference in the lives of people in the country in areas of healthcare and education.

"The Mar Thoma Church is closely linked with the noble ideals of Saint Thomas, the Apostle of Lord Christ. India has always been open to spiritual influences from many sources. It is with this spirit of humility that the Mar Thoma Church has worked to bring a positive difference in the lives of our fellow Indians," Modi said.
