Mangaluru, Jun 9: A delegation of activists led by anti-SEZ crusader Vidya Dinker called on chief minister Siddaramaiah recently at Vidhan Soudha and complained against Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) which is still using an old law to acquiring agricultural land belong to farmers for the extension of MRPL.

The KIADB is currently acquiring 850-acres of land for MRPL at Kuthethur and Permude villages. The activists brought to the notice of CM that the KIADB has issued notice to farmers in violation of the Karnataka high court's order that no land acquisition should be done as per the old.

Ms Dinker pointed to the CM that there is nearly 900-acres of vacant land at Thokur already acquired for a different purpose and one that is contiguous to MRPL's land. There is ample scope for MPRL to use this land for its extension, Vidya said adding that it is strange that KIADB is now striving to take away land of farmer's afresh.

On the other hand, no industry has been set up in the 750-acres of land acquired from Mangaluru Special Economic Zone. "What is the true intent of KIADB acquiring land in this real estate type manner," Ms Dinker questioned the CM. Recalling that Vidya had raised this issue with him in the past, Siddaramaiah said he had directed the deputy commissioner of DK district to submit a report on unused land acquired for industrial purposes.

Noting that CM said he was yet to receive a report from the DC in this regard, the CM said he will direct the chief secretary's office to seek an explanation from the DC and take steps after receiving a report from the DCs office forthwith. He also assured to look in to the complaint that KIADB is using the old law to acquire land and take corrective steps.

Lawrence D'Cunha, Ramachandra Bhat of Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti were part of the delegation.

Bengaluru, Feb 25: Infosys is all set to announce a cyber defence centre in Indianapolis to complement its technology and innovation centre inaugurated early last year.

This will be Infosys' seventh global cyber defence centre. According to its recent cybersecurity report titled 'Assuring Digital Trust,' 83 per cent of executives view cybersecurity as critical, yet 67 per cent are still struggling to have security embedded.

The cyber defence centre will provide end-to-end, real-time, 24x7 cyber security monitoring and protection services to support and guide American businesses in their digital transformation journey, it said.

The facility is dedicated and organised to prevent, detect, assess and respond to cybersecurity threats and breaches.

Client environment will be monitored round the clock, adopting a follow-the-sun model to deliver services like 24x7 security monitoring, management and remediation, threat hunting, security analytics, incident discovery and response, compliance reporting and malware analysis.

Vishal Salvi, Chief Information Security Officer and Head of Cyber Security Practice at Infosys, said the cyber defence centre is staffed with expert security analysts with niche skills around threat research and intelligence gathering to deliver best-in-class services to customers.

"Additionally, advanced data analytics and machine learning models are deployed to detect zero-day threats by unknown threat actors. This supports our commitment to helping our customers build a resilient cybersecurity programme that operates at scale while increasing operational efficiency and reducing costs," he said in a statement.
