Vindo Binny teams up with 2 MLAs, threatens to pull plug on Kejriwal govt

February 3, 2014

Vindo_BinnyNew Delhi, Feb 3: Aam Aadmi Party's expelled MLA Vinod Kumar Binny on Sunday produced the most potent threat yet to the month-old Kejriwal government, when he teamed up with two legislators and said they would withdraw support if the regime did not fulfill its promises in the next 48 hours on slashing power and water bills, women's security and a fair probe into the 2010 Commonwealth Games scams.

The rebel Laxmi Nagar MLA shared the podium with veteran Janata Dal (United) MLA Shoaib Iqbal and Independent Rambeer Shokeen, both of whom had voted for the government in the assembly.

AAP has 27 MLAs after Binny's expulsion and runs the government with outside support from eight Congress legislators. If the trio were to vote against the government, it faces the prospect of slipping below the majority mark of 36 in the 70-member House. Binny also claimed to have the support of other two MLAs.

Iqbal, who in past had expressed a desire to join AAP, claimed that the party was losing popularity. "People are no more with the AAP government as it has completely failed to deliver its promises," he said, hinting that he may form a new party. The rebels, when asked to identify the other dissidents, said they would hold another press conference on Monday to announce the names.

"We are not interested in bringing down the government. But we want the government to fulfill its promises. We are giving them 48 hours to deliver. The next course of action will be decided later," he said. Binny had earlier accused AAP of deviating from its poll promises, triggering an ugly bickering in the party. He was sacked earlier this month.

In the list of Binny's demands were a reversal of the hike in surcharge on power, making water consumption up to 700 litres a day free without any riders, a probe into the Commonwealth Games and effective measures for women's security.

After coming to power, AAP had said water up to 20 kilolitre water per month (approximately 666 litres per day) will be free for consumers with functional meters. The government also slashed electricity tariffs by 50% for households that consumed up to 400 units a month. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission last Friday approved a hike in the power purchase cost adjustment surcharge, as sought by the city's private distribution companies.

New Delhi, Feb 28: The Congress on Friday reacted sharply to the petition in the court seeking registration of a First Information Report against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for alleged hate speeches. It said the petition was to save BJP leaders Pravesh Verma, Anurag Thakur and Kapil Mishra, referring to the trio as "PAK".

Congress leader Jaiveer Shergil told news agency, "It is political interest litigation to hide the failure of the government and to put a lid on the BJP's involvement in fuelling the fire in Delhi riots.

"This is to hide and save BJP's PAK -- Pravesh, Anurag and Kapil," said Shergil.

The BJP has two parameters, the laws for the common man and citizens of the country are different from those for the BJP leaders, added Mr Shergil.

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices on a petition for the registration of an FIR against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and others on charges of delivering hate speeches.

Congress said that the PIL was politically motivated and the inaction on the hate speeches made by the BJP leaders, which led to the riots, was shocking.

"When there are 48 cases registered, why three cases against the BJP leaders are not registered," asked Mr Shergil.

A Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel sought responses from the Central and Delhi governments apart from Delhi Police on a petition filed by Lawyers Voice. The matter will again be heard on April 13.

The petition also sought a case against Aam Aadmi Party leaders Manish Sisodia and Amanatullah Khan, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leaders Akbaruddin Owaisi and Waris Pathan, and lawyer Mehmood Paracha.

"Issue directions to constitute an SIT to look into these hate speeches and take appropriate action. Issue direction to register an FIR against those named in the petition," the petition said.

New Delhi, Jul 20: Alleging that 2,426 companies have "looted" people's savings to the tune of Rs 1.47 lakh crore from banks, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government will conduct a probe into it to punish those guilty.

"2,426 companies looted 1.47 lakh crore rupees of people's savings from banks. Will this government investigate this loot and punish the culprits?" Gandhi said on Twitter, without elaborating.

"Or will it allow them to flee like Nirav and Lalit Modi?" he asked.

Gandhi's attack came after media reports claimed that the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) had released a list of 2,426 borrower accounts that have been categorised as “wilful defaulters” with dues amounting to Rs 1,47,350 crore to the banking system.
