Mangaluru, Jan 1: Days after an aspiring actress posted a video on Facebook alleging policemen in Subrahmanya of inhumanly behaving with her and her male friend belonging to another community superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada district has initiated action against two cops for exceeding their brief.
In the video, which has gone viral on social media, the aspiring actress Anusha has claimed that the male policemen thrashed her just because she met a Muslim boy near the temple.
She also revealed that the police forced her to give a statement against the man, threatening to label him a terrorist, exterminate his family members and hinder his sister's wedding if she refused to obey their orders. “They (policemen) just hate Muslims,” the actress who belongs to Hindu community, lamented.
SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the woman and the youth were found near Subrahmanya temple on December 20. "As she was found moving alone in the night, she was brought to the local police station. It was found that she had left home without the knowledge of her family a few days ago," the SP said.
The SP admitted the constables had exceeded their brief and acted in an inappropriate manner. "Action is initiated against the constable and head constable and also the in-charge of the station at that time for misbehaviour," he said.
It is learnt that Anusha had arrived at Subrahmanya temple on December 19 for a ritual to cure 'sarpa dosha'. As bachelors and spinsters are not given rooms in Subrahmanya, she slept at a dormitory in the temple premises. The next day she was found with a Muslim male friend. A few miscreants belonging to communal outfits reportedly brought the matter to the notice of local police, who took both of them to the station.
After the ordeal, the actress returned to her home at Kodihalli near Gundlupete in Chamarajanagar. In her video she also urged the police and people not to spread rumours against her and her Muslim friend. “We are friends and there is no affair between us. Please leave us. Because of me he is in trouble. Kindly don’t spoil his career and life,” she requested.
