Voting for Madhya Pradesh assembly begins, Chouhan seeks third term as CM

Bhopal, Nov 25: Polling for the Madhya Pradesh assembly began this morning at 8am to decide the fate of 230 seats where 2,583 candidates are in the fray.

The BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan is fighting for an unprecedented third consecutive victory.

Long queues were seen from morning at many polling booths in major cities of the state, including Bhopal.

Polling in three assembly constituencies of Naxalite affected Balaghat district — Baihar, Lanji and Paraswada — started at 7am and will end at 3pm.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and leader of the opposition in state assembly Ajay Singh were among those who cast their votes early on Monday in their respective constituencies of Budhni and Churhat.

Strict security arrangements have been made all over the state to ensure smooth conduct of polling.

Voting will be held in 53,896 polling booths in 51 districts with an electorate of 4,64,57,724.

Chouhan is contesting from Budhni and Vidisha seats. The other prominent candidates from BJP are state urban development minister and former chief minister Babulal Gaur (Govindpura in Bhopal), forest minister Sartaj Singh (Seoni-Malwa in Hoshangabad district) and parliamentary affairs minister Narottam Mishra (Datia proper in Datia district).

State home minister Uma Shankar Gupta is contesting from Bhopal southwest, while rural development and panchayati raj minister Gopal Bhargava from Rehli and BJP MP Yashodhara Raje Scindia from Shivpuri.

The Congress' candidates are led by Ajay Singh, who is contesting again from the Churhat constituency in Sidhi district.

Another prominent Congress candidate contesting the election is Jaiwardhan Singh, the son of party general secretary and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh. Jaiwardhan is in the race from Raghogarh constituency in Guna district.

Candidates from 12 erstwhile royal families have also thrown their hats in the ring.

Congress has been out of power in the state since it lost elections in December 2003.

Rajya Sabha member, former SP leader Amar Singh, 64, dies in Singapore hospital

New Delhi, Aug 1: Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh has died in Singapore where he was undergoing treatment.

Amar Singh, 64, had undergone kidney transplant in 2011 and was not keeping well for a long time.

“Saddened to know about the death of senior leader and parliamentarian Amar Singh,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.

Earlier in the day, the former Samajwadi leader had posted messages on Twitter, paying tributes to Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his 100th death anniversary and also wishing people on Eid.

Chhattisgarh minister TS Singh Deo calls Scindia power-hungry leader for ditching Congress

Raipur, Mar 13: Calling Jyotiraditya Scindia a "power-hungry" leader, Chhattisgarh Minister and Congress leader TS Singh Deo on Friday said that if someone joins another party to occupy the top position of the state that he should never become a Chief Minister.

When enquired if Deo has any plans to join the BJP in the future, he quickly said that he would never be able to relate himself with the "ideology" of the party.

"People may make claims but I will never join BJP, even if I get 100 lives I will never associate with that ideology. A person who joins BJP for not being able to become Chief Minister should never become a Chief Minister," he said while speaking to media in Raipur.

"A single person does not remain as captain forever, Kapil Dev got his chance when Gavaskar was there. Currently, Virat Kohli is the captain but in T20 there are different captains. Will Kohli join Pakistan's team if he is not made the captain? This is beyond understanding."

On Wednesday, Scindia joined BJP in New Delhi in the presence of party President JP Nadda. He had resigned from Congress a day earlier after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He will file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections on March 13.

May it be Scindia or some other, misusing power cheating with citizens mandate for their self benifit "very soon the fare and best judgement from the creator will be their very soon. No one is greatro than the creator.

For citizens well fare creator is opinion and protect always there. Hope MP people always with faith on creator.

JDU expels Prashant Kishor, Pavan Varma for opposing contentious CAA

New Delhi, Jan 29: The Janata Dal (United) today expelled its vice-president Prashant Kishor and senior leader Pavan Kumar accusing them of "anti-party" activities.

Both the leaders have been attacking the party leadership over its pro-CAA stand.

The spat between Nitish Kumar and Kishor was out in the open yesterday when the former reminded the political strategist that he was inducted into the party on the recommendation of Union home minister Amit Shah.

It all began when Nitish, while talking to the media here, said, “I don’t have any problem if he (Kishor) wants to leave the party. But if he wants to stay, then he will have to follow the basic structure of the party.”

Varma had also questioned the JDU's alliance with the BJP in Delhi Assembly polls while Kishor has more than once voiced his differences with the party known on the issue of CAA and NRC.
