Mysuru, Nov 20: Demanding stringent action against those behind attack on former minister and sitting Congress MLA Tanveer Sait, the Social Democratic Party of India has urged the political parties not to politicise the issue.

Addressing a press meet here today, Abdul Majeed, National Gen. Secretary, SDPI, said attack on a peoples’ representative in front of the public shows that how dreadful the incident was. Such incidents create unrest and anxiety in the society.

Congratulating the police for arresting the accused, he urged the police to probe the incident appropriately and reveal the real motives behind the incident. “The culprit must be punished for the crime. SDPI has full trust and hopes on police that they will investigate this matter impartially and will not arrest and use innocents in this matter,” he said.

He said: “The political leaders must have some sense that their misleading and stressful statements will badly impact on the good atmosphere of the society. It's the habit of BJP and Congress to politicize any incidents happened and diverting it to their benefits.”

He said, some political leaders’ assertion in politicizing the incident is a reflection of their irresponsible and misleading attitude. “SDPI strongly condemns such irresponsible behavior. These leaders should need to be matured and know their responsibility by quitting their habits of defining every incidents beneath their nose and giving wrong messages to the society. They must understand that their assertions shall carry truth and sincerity.”

“We have been observing that there are some evil attempts to connect the Mysuru incident to SDPI. We clarify here that there is no any connection between SDPI and Mysuru incident. SDPI is growing across the nation as an alternate political party with the dream of building a popular, secure and equally developed society. In view of gaining massive popularity by SDPI in the nation through creating awareness, intellectualism and political empowerment, the vested interests are taking part in the conspiracies of spreading falsehood and concocted allegations to tarnish the image of the party,” he said.

Devanoor Puttananjaiah, State Vice President, SDPI, Kumaraswamy, State Secretary, SDPI and Abrar Ahmed State Committee Member, SDPI where present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: The Karnataka government on Wednesday clarified that no coronavirus "emergency" has been declared in the state and that all the schools and offices will remain open.

Earlier, there were fake reports that Karnataka has declared "coronavirus as an epidemic" in the state.

In a statement, Karnataka health commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey refuted the reports doing rounds on social media which said Karnataka had declared COVID-19 as a "state epidemic".

Refuting the rumours, he added that all the schools, offices and other institutions will continue to function normally in the state.

The Karnataka government earlier today issued temporary regulation which asked all government and private hospitals to have flu corners for screening of suspected cases of COVID-19.

According to the regulation, no person/institution shall use print or electronic media to spread mis-information on COVID-19 without prior permission of the department of health & family welfare. If a person is found indulging in any such activity, they will be punished, it said.

The Karnataka government also started a campaign called 'Namaste over Handshake' that encourages people to greet in the traditional Indian style, to tackle the spread of the virus.

The state has reported four positive cases of coronavirus so far.

India, so far, has 60 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 16 Italians tourists.
