We did not kill Gauri Lankesh; ready to cooperate in probe: Sanatan Sanstha

Bengaluru, Sept 21: Denying its involvement in the coldblooded murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh, Goa-based hardline Hindutva outfit Sanatan Sanstha, demanded an “unbiased probe” into the case and said their volunteers (sadhaks) would “co-operate with any probe as required by law.

“Don’t suspect us. No one from Sanatan Sanstha involved in this murder,” said the organization’s national spokesperson Chetan Rajhans in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Asked if the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had, till date, questioned any volunteer in connection with the murder, he  said: “Local police in Goa and Maharashtra are inquiring about the murder with our volunteers; but not the SIT.”

The Sanstha had published only one article on her in Sanatan Prabhat, its mouthpiece, when she accused the organisation of involvement in Madgoan blast in Goa, he said.

Mr. Rajhans, while acknowledging Dr. Veerendra Tawde and Sameer Gaekwad chargesheeted in the murders of the two rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare as “sadhaks” of the Sanstha, claimed the two were “framed.”

“We are not part of BJP. Whoever, is in power what we need is a fair probe. The way the state government in Maharashtra is behaving is also not very different from other governments,” Mr. Rajhans said.

Bengaluru, Jul 7: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday held a meeting with a team of officials from the Union Health Ministry in Bengaluru in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

The team of Union Health Ministry officials praised the state's COVID-19 management measures.

Arti Ahuja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health, EMR director Ravindran met the Chief Minister during a two-day visit to the state. The team praised the State Government's efforts to gather information and identify co-morbid figures for the control of COVID-19.

During the meeting, it was discussed that in the following days, priority should be given to prevent death from COVID-19 and to provide adequate treatment for symptomatic infections.

In addition, Central team officials suggested that the COVID-19 guidelines should be followed in containment zones.

Officials informed about the steps being taken to treat COVID infected people in the state and stated that the High Flow Oxygen System is being implemented in all district hospitals and taluk hospitals in the state.  The process will be completed by August 15.

Health Minister B. Sriramulu, Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar, Chief Secretary to Government Vijayabhaskar and other senior officials were present during the meeting.

Kasaragod, Apr 3: Kerala reported nine new cases of coronavirus on Friday, with seven from the worst affected Kasaragod district, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the coastal district alone mounted to 136.

Besides, Kasaragod, one case each was detected from Thrissur and Idukki, he told reporters after a COVID-19 review meeting this evening.

Currently, 251 people are under treatment for the virus in the state and 14 were cured today, Vijayan said.

A total of 1.69 lakh people are under surveillence in the state and 706 are in various hospitals.

Two fatalities have been reported from the state so far.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor, M Goutham Kumar on Friday called for an extension of lockdown in the city for one more week due to rise in the COVID-19 cases.

"It will be better if we get more time to tackle COVID-19 cases, we wish for the extension of lockdown for one more week. We have given the proposal to the government," said M Goutham Kumar, BBMP Mayor.

"After the number of cases increased in Bengaluru, BBMP started antigen test in containment and hotspot zones of Bengaluru to tackle the cases which have crossed 2,000 mark," he added.

Along with Mayor, BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar has also proposed the state government to extend lockdown in Bengaluru for one more week.

"The number of cases in Bengaluru increasing in Bengaluru rapidly. BBMP has inaugurated more than 200 vehicles in Bengaluru for the use of the antigen test," said Anil Kumar, Commissioner BBMP.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 51,422 COVID-19 cases in the state.
