Pistols, revolvers and other dangerous weapons that can be used for terror activities are being smuggled to Karnataka from BJP ruled northern states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, according to State Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

The revelation comes days after the arrest of Hindu Yuva Sene leader Naveen Kumar T alias Hotte Manja by the special investigation team probing Gauri Lankesh murder case. The 38-year-old gunrunner from Maddur in Mandya was caught at the KSRTC bus stand in Majestic area in Bengaluru when he was trying to sell .32-calibre gun and 15 live bullets.

Speaking to media persons in Mysuru on Saturday (March 3), Mr Reddy said that he had sought the support of the state governments of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh to curb weapons smuggling into the south India state. He said that weapons available in those states easily reach the prospective buyers in Karnataka.

“The weapons are being supplied to the underworld gangsters mailing from those three states. Hence, necessary measures should be taken to address the problem at the grass-root level. The chief ministers of three BJP-ruled states must consider our appeal," he said.

The minister said that Karnataka government has already taken initiatives to curb smuggling of weapons into the state. The senior police officers are in touch with their counterparts in the neighbouring states, he added.

This is proof for the existence of saffron terrorism in India. This is also proof for BJP’s involvement in saffron terrorism. This is also proves that BJP is an anti-national force.

Uttar Pradesh was a hub of illegal weapons during Samajwadi party rule. BJP CM Yogi has succeeded in curbing illegal arms in the UP.

This is indeed a serious issue. Unfortunately not being highlighted by mainstream media in spite of direct revelation by the home minister. Reddy should pressurise the police department to deal with saffron terror with iron fist. As elections are nearing they may be conspiring for something big.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: As the stage is set for the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram temple construction at Ayodhya on Wednesday, retired Supreme Court judge N Santosh Hegde has called for the promotion of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence and respect for different faiths.

"It is a good idea to make that as an object of the temple so that there can be peace in the world," the former Solicitor General of India said when asked if the temple should be promoted as a symbol of national integration, and social and communal harmony.

Hegde said one of the most dangerous things for conflict today is religion. "In that background, there should be some effort from somebody or other to bring about peaceful coexistence, respecting each religion," the former Karnataka Lokayukta told PTI on Tuesday. "It is a good idea to start Bhumi Pujan as an indicator of that or foundation for developing harmony among various religions," he added.

The Supreme Court had in November last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a Trust at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Ayodhya. It also directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5- acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted a five-acre land in Dhannipur village in Sohaval Tehsil of Ayodhya for the mosque's construction.

Bengaluru, May 27: A yet incomplete state-wide survey has revealed that there are over 53.99 lakh households vulnerable to the infection in Karnataka. The survey is being conducted by the government to find COVID-19 vulnerable population particularly with comorbidities and cases like SARI and ILI.

The survey, which is 67.16% complete so far, finds 1.37 lakh households across Karnataka have people with comorbid conditions, excluding a further 13,341 households with symptoms of Influenza Like Illness (ILI), Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and Covid-19.

Over 48 lakh households have senior citizens, who on account of their age are at highest risk of death from the disease.

Munish Moudgil, Director of the State COVID War Room, clarified that households could have multiple types of vulnerable people. According to the survey data (which is dated May 26), Kalaburagi and Bengaluru Urban have the highest cases of SARI, ILI with 1,902 households and 1,703 households respectively, although these numbers are likely to rise, as the survey is still incomplete in these districts.

A BBMP source said that 68% of the survey has been completed in the city, but the data has not been logged yet. The number of SARI/ILI cases is next highest in Shivamogga with 1,217 households, Mysuru with 1,200 and Davangere with 1,178.

The government regards SARI and ILI as indicators of coronavirus and on April 17, had passed an order instructing healthcare workers to test people with these conditions for the coronavirus. Consequently, 51 COVID-19 cases were discovered by testing people with these symptoms.

Belagavi, meantime, has reported the highest incidents of households with comorbid conditions with 12,427 identified so far, followed by Mandya with 9,289, Kalaburagi with 8,311, Shivamogga with 8,140 and Bengaluru Urban with 7,562. Importantly, 3,45,443 vulnerable people have been identified in Bengaluru Urban within 28.26% of data logged in so far.
