Abu Dhabi, Nov 9: Hindus are urging prestigious about £1bn museum Louvre Abu Dhabi (LAD) unveiled by French President Emmanuel Macron on November 8 to enrich its collection of Hindu artifacts.

Welcoming the reported display of 10th century dancing Shiva statue at LAD, and a painting of Krishna with gopis in its collection; Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, called it a step in the positive direction.

But Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed the need to acquire more Hindu artifacts if LAD was really interested in portraying itself as a world-class museum and proving its claims of a “universal museum”.

Art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth, Rajan Zed said and added that LAD needed to share the rich Hindu art heritage with the rest of the world to demonstrate its mission “to create human connections through art”.

Dancing Shiva, the 86 centimeters high Chola-period lost-wax bronze from Tamil Nadu (India); represents the Hindu deity Shiva in an iconographic form known as Nataraja, or Lord of the Dance; and has been in the collection of National Gallery of Australia in Canberra till 2009, reports suggest.

Built on Saadiyat Island and designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, LAD, Abu Dhabi’s collaboration with Musée du Louvre of Paris, is also reportedly displaying works of Van Gogh, Picasso, Gauguin, Ai Weiwei, Whistler, etc. It is claimed to be the largest global cultural project since New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, which opened in 1870.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: Karnataka Chief Minister's political adviser MP Renukacharya has courted controversy yet again with his remarks targeting the Muslim community at a pro-CAA rally in Karnataka on Monday.

Addressing a rally in support of the new citizenship law, the BJP lawmaker accused Muslims of collecting weapons in mosques instead of praying. "There are few traitors who sit in a masjid and write fatwas. They collect weapons inside the mosque instead of praying. Is this why you want a Masjid," Renukacharya said on Monday.

Renukacharya said he won't hesitate to use the money allotted to Muslims for Hindus. "I will resort to such politics in my taluk where the money allotted for Muslims can be used for Hindus. I will put you [Muslims] in your place and show what politics is," said Renukacharya, who is a close aide of CM BS Yediyurappa.

This is not the first time a Karnataka BJP leader has made communal remarks targeting the minority community. Earlier, BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy had made controversial remarks at a pro-citizenship law protest in Ballari when he asked those opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to think of the "consequences" if the majority community members hit the streets against them.

The MLA had said, "If you do any drama, then if 100 per cent people come, understand what will be your situation. Congress people are lying to you, believing them you are coming on streets. We are 80 per cent, you are 17 per cent, if we react, what will be your situation? Be careful," Reddy had said.

Following outrage, a case was filed against Somashekar Reddy for alleged provocative speech targeting those protesting against the amended citizenship law.

Bengaluru, Jun 17: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has directed Minorities Department officials to take steps for tabling the Karnataka Lokayukta report on alleged irregularities in wakf properties in Karnataka, during the next session of the State legislature.

Following the Anwar Manipaddi report on alleged irregularities in wakf properties, the Lokayukta conducted the probe. The Siddaramaiah government rejected both the Anwar Manipaddi report and the Lokayukta report.

The Chief Minister issued the directions to officials during a review of the department works on Tuesday, said an official press release. The Lokayukta reportedly named several Congress leaders and senior officers in the scam.

The Lokayukta conducted the probe and submitted the report containing 15 volumes to the State government during the Siddaramaiah government’s tenure.
