Kerala got its unique identification as a state on November 1, 1956 which was earlier was made up of three distinct areas; namely Travancore, Malabar and Cochin, P.P. Abdurazack started with a brief history of Kerala while delivering the key note speech on the occasion.Kerala has many feathers to its cap to mention a few; 100% literacy, low infant mortality rate, equal status to men and women in all respects, PPR continued.

Focusing on the central theme of the conference” Rebuilding a New Kerala possible”, P.P. Abdul Razzack explained the various aspects of development that suites tothe geographic and demographic pattern of the state of Kerala. Based on its basic priorities that encompasses the restructuring of education system, geography, culture and tradition.

The list could be long, with better green cover and watersheds and more. As the most literate state with its liberal and educated views, the people of Kerala can lead the way to an environment friendly and sustainable model of development. Kerala a blessed state with 44 rivers is the land of beaches and backwaters and thus it is the centre of attraction for tourist around the globe.

Kerala when planning rehabilitation and rebuilding, due importance should be given for the intensified awareness about environmental issues and conservation of Natural resources of Kerala. The geographic and demographic pattern of the state necessitated the use of waterways and water bodies for communication and connectivity before the vast network of roads and rails provided an alternative for the hinterland intra state connectivity. Regular schedules for passengers and cargo by waterway still exist along with rail and road network.

It is the opportune time to take decisions that are sustainable and bode well for the future, because we are now in a time window where we can learn, being so close to the event.
