Mangaluru, Apr 9: Actor-turned-politician Ambareesh, who has been accusing chief minister Siddaramaiah of sidelining him, has now apparently started avoiding Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi too.

The Congress high command is in a state of confusion, as Ambareesh, who represents Mandya in Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has not responded to the deadline given by K C Venugopal, the Congress in-charge of the state. The deadline expired on April 8.

Ambareesh was conspicuous by his absence during the visit of Rahul Gandhi to the state. The party high command asked him to inform his stand on contesting from Mandya Assembly constituency. There were rumours that his wife Sumalatha and his close confidantes could contest from  Mandya.

However, Ambareesh has maintained silence over the issue giving rise to speculations. Around 500 of his supporters met him in Bengaluru and invited him to the district. Despite this, Ambareesh did not issue statements leaving the Congress confused.

It is said that Ambareesh told his followers on Sunday, who went to remind him of the deadline, that he would take a call on the issue  by Monday. There are rumours that Ambareesh has been demanding the party to hand over five 'B' forms to him for five constituencies, except Malavalli and Nagamangala.

Madikeri, Feb 23: Back-to-back floods and landslides in the last two years, has led to a fall in the number of tourists coming to the coffee-growing region of Kodagu, forcing the district administration to intervene and take confidence-building measures, telling tourists that Kodagu was safe to visit.

According to the statistics of the Karnataka State Tourism Department, Kodagu recorded a moderately good number of tourists in 2018 and 2019, the years that the district witnessed devastating floods and landslides.

The Department’s statistics reveal that 17 lakh tourists visited Kodagu in 2018 and 18 lakh in 2019. This means the flood-ravaged years did attract tourists contrary to what the stakeholders had claimed.
