Mangaluru, Jul 17: The office bearers of the Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have expressed deep discontent against the DK district administration for not formally inviting them for the recently held peace meet.
Addressing a press meet on Monday, K S Mohammed Masood, the president of the Committee, said that deputy commissioner K G Jagadeesha must give a clarification as to why they were not invited for the meeting. He said that the Committee founded in 1968 has around 800 Jamaats under its jurisdiction.
"Previously, we used to get invitation for all such meetings, but we don't know why we were not invited this time, Masood said.
“Officials in the district administration know the significance of our organization that has taken several initiatives to preserve harmony in the region. Former DG and IGP Ajai Kumar Singh also had appreciated the initiatives taken by the committee in a letter in 2010 for resolving a communal issue through dialogues with VHP and Bajranga Dal. It is unfortunate that the district administration has ignored our organization when they held peace meeting recently," he said.
He said that the committee is an apolitical organization that is represented by leaders from all political parties.
Masood said police should arrest all the accused in the murder of RSS worker Sharath Madivala and SDPI member Ashraf Kalaai immediately. "Arrest them and deport them from the region," he added.
In the wake of communal unrest in the coastal region, the DK district administration had held a peace meeting on July 13. District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai had chaired the meeting.
BJP had boycotted the peace meet. JD(S) had staged a walk out in protest against the permission denial by the district administration to hold ‘Kalladka Chalo’ amidst prohibitory orders.
