Will D K Shivakumar replace Gundurao as Karnataka Congress chief?

Bengaluru, Aug 25: Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar may be appointed the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), sources said.

“The party is considering replacing incumbent president Dinesh Gundurao with Shivakumar, and also other office-bearers,” said a leader. A final decision is expected after the AICC working committee meeting to be held next week. Dinesh still has one-and-half years to complete his tenure.

“The party has to appoint PCC presidents in three states. Along with those states, we’re expecting a change of guard in Karnataka too,” said a senior leader. Shivakumar, who is camping in Delhi for the past three days, reportedly met AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday and held talks.

The party is also expected to decide on the opposition leader even as the Congress legislature party leader (CLP) by default is functioning in that role. The party is yet to appoint him officially. 
“With Siddaramaiah facing flak from JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda, who held him responsible for the collapse of the previous JD(S)-Congress government, his supporters are keeping their fingers crossed,’’ said another leader.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Following the alarming increase in Coronavirus cases, Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Monday said that those subjected to home quarantine stamping would be arrested if they were found to visit public places.

"5,000 Home quarantine stamping was carried to ensure that they remain in home and not to be seen in public places for their own interest as well as in an attempt to prevent spread of Coronavirus", he tweeted.

"I have received information on some of those stamped are moving in BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses and sitting in restaurants. Please call 100, these people will be picked up, arrested and sent to government quarantine," Rao said.

Mangaluru, Apr 26: Yet another covid-19 positive case has been reported from Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. 

Health and Family Welfare Department's latest bulletin revealed that a 47-year-old woman from Panemangaluru in Bantwal was tested positive for the coronavirus. 

With this the total number of covid-19 infected people in Dakshina Kannada rose to 19 out of which 7 are from Bantwal taluk. 

According to sources, this woman was working as a sweeper in a private hospital in the city where a coronavirus victim from Bantwal was being treated before she was shifted to covid-19 hospital.

Kalaburgi, Jan 2: At least 10 students sustained injuries when a private bus carrying students of a school on an educational tour rammed into a tree today morning.

The mishap occurred when the students of Ayyappa School located in Chennaveera Nagar were going around the city in a bus during their tour.

The bus crashed into a tree near Venkatagiri Hotel on New Jewargi Road in the city.

A case has been registered at a traffic police station.
