Will Karnataka govt table Anwar Manippady report now?

Bengaluru, Mar 30: After the Supreme Court’s dismissed a Special Leave Petition filed by the Karnataka government, the latter has no option but to place the Anwar Manippady report before the House.

The report allegedly states that some 28,000 acres out of 54,000 acres of Wakf properties has been embezzled worth some Rs 2.3 lakh crore as on 2012 when the report was submitted to the then state government headed by the BJP.

It had recommended that the state government should restore the encroached properties, including three medical colleges, 12 engineering colleges, hundreds of professional colleges, schools, commercial complexes, five star hotels etc.

This is a 7,000-page report, which details the encroachments of Wakf land and property by Muslim politicians, businessmen and prominent leaders of the community. Land was allegedly sold off at throwaway prices in collusion between the real estate mafia, Wakf officials and politicians.

The apex court dismissed the SLP filed by the present state government on March 15. The state had filed the petition challenging a High Court order of March 28, 2016, which directed the government to place the report in both Houses of the legislature.

The privileges committee of the Karnataka State Legislative Council had recommended that the state government place the report before the House. Even the then Council Chairman had ruled that the government table the report.

Tumakuru, Jul 7: Coronavirus is spreading at the community level in Karnataka, said minister, JC Madhuswamy on Monday.

"Medical condition of eight infected with coronavirus admitted in Tumkur COVID Hospital is critical. There is no guarantee of their lives as per the information. We somewhere feel we are worried that coronavirus is spreading at the community level," Madhuswamy, Tumakuru district-in-charge minister, told reporters here.

"We have reached a point where it is difficult for the district authorities to restrain it, even though we are trying to restrain it. Somewhere the situation is going out of hand," he said.

The minister confirmed that the cumulative toll in the district due to COVID-19 rises to 9.

Earlier, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan, Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar have denied of community transmission of coronavirus in Karnataka.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 23,474 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 13,255 and 372 deaths.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday arrived at the Yelahanka air base by a special plane on a two-day visit to Karnataka to attend events in Tumakuru and Bengaluru.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda and Pralhad Joshi and state Revenue Minister R Ashoka were present to welcome Modi.

Yediyurappa greeted the Prime Minister by garlanding him and offering a shawl and adorned him with a Mysuru Peta (turban).

Later, Modi flew to Tumakuru to attend events at the Siddaganga Math apart from addressing a gathering and to present the Krishi Karman Award.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will visit the DRDO facility to dedicate five DRDO Young Scientists Laboratories to the nation.

He will stay at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

On Friday, Modi will inaugurate the 107th Indian Science Congress at the University of Agriculture Science in Bengaluru.

Mangaluru, May 30: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today recorded third covid-19 death as a 67-year-old woman from Bantwal taluk succumbed to the coronavirus at the district Wenlock Hospital, the designated Covid hospital.

The victim is said to be a neighbor of two women (daughter-in-law and mother-in-law) who died of the coronavirus a few days ago. 

On April 18 due to difficulties in breathing, she was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, where she was tested positive for coronavirus. Initially she responded to treatment. However, her condition started worsening earlier this week and breathed her last today evening.

Her daughter also has been tested positive for the deadly virus and she is currently undergoing treatment.
