Mysuru, Nov 21: Claiming that the attack on Congress MLA Tanveer Sait was because of ‘ideological differences’ and ‘political rivalry’, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the activists of a political party had plotted the murder of the former minister.

Speaking to media persons, Mr Bommai said that preliminary investigation showed that the arrested assailant Farhan Pasha was an active member of PFI and SDPI. “Police are looking for corroborative evidence. In a day or two, police will take their investigation to its logical end,” he said.

Earlier, Bommai visited Sait at Columbia Asia hospital. "His condition is improving and medical parameters are stable. In a day or two he'll be shifted to a ward," he said.

He said, the attack is similar to those in Bengaluru and Mysuru and cops are checking if there's a link to them. If it's confirmed that members of a particular organisation are involved in the attack, steps will be taken to ban them.

"When there were Naxal attacks, politicians in sensitive areas were given protection. Similarly, all politicians in communally sensitive pockets will be given adequate protection," he added.

Urging political party leaders not to take advantage of the attack, Abdul Majeed, national general secretary, Social Democratic Party of India, on Wednesday demanded that police conduct an impartial inquiry and bring all wrongdoers to book.

Meanwhile, police officers probing Sait's attack have gone under disguise to conceal their identity. Since the attack looked like an organised one, cops aren't taking any chances with their safety, said sources.
