Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has told the British Deputy High Commissioner to India Alexander Evans that former would be the king and not king maker after the 2018 assembly elections.

Evans who paid a courtesy visit to Kumaraswamy's house for a breakfast meeting on Tuesday morning, asked the latter if he would emerge as the "king maker" in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Kumaraswamy however said that he would emerge as "king" and not king maker. "According to me, JD(S) will get a clear majority," he said.

When Evans wondered if it would be a "narrow" or a "substantial" majority, Kumaraswamy said that it would be the latter.

"We will get a substantial majority as the farming community depends on my party," added Kumaraswamy.

Evans was accompanied by Dominic McAllister, British Deputy High Commissioner in Bengaluru, and Alex Cameron, Head of Political and Bilateral Affairs, British High Commission.

Mangaluru: Youth jumps off Netravati bridge

Mangaluru, Jan 3: A young entrepreneur reportedly jumped off the Netravati bridge near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today morning.

The youth who allegedly committed suicide has been Navesh Kottari, 30, a resident of Ullalbail. He was the proprietor of N J Shamiyana.

The incident took place at around 6:30 a.m. Police and fire brigade rushed to the spot after sometime and launched search operation for the body in the river Netravati.

The body was retrieved in the afternoon.

Mangaluru: Four of the six scheduled flights cancelled on the first day

Mangaluru, May 25: Four domestic flights that were scheduled to operate from Mangaluru International Airport today have been cancelled.

A total of six flights were scheduled to depart Mangaluru Airport today.

Among them, two flights to Mumbai, one to Chennai and one to Bengaluru were cancelled due to lack of passengers and other reasons, sources said.

The remaining two flights – both to Bengaluru – are expected to take off with limited passengers later in the day.

Domestic flight operations resumed in the country today after a gap of two months. All flight operations had ceased when the nationwide lockdown was imposed in March.

Once again Bengaluru witnesses massive protest against CAA, NRC, NPR

Bengaluru, Jan 21: A massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) was witnessed at Shivajinagar's Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday.

Scores of people came together carrying national flags and placards to register their protest in the city.

Speaking to ANI, a protester said, "People of all religious community have assembled here in Chandni Chowk to protest against CAA, NRC, and NPR. We the people of India are against this law."

Terming the law as anti-constitutional, he said that we support all the states who oppose the CAA. We demand the revocation of CAA and the government should remove conditions in NPR which lead to NRC.

CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
