Witness 'tutored' in Ishrat files case

New Delhi, Jun 17: A fresh controversy erupted in the Ishrat Jehan case on Thursday. It is claimed that a senior Ministry of Home Affairs official, probing the missing files on Ishrat, had tutored a key witness about the questions likely to be asked.

IshratWhile Home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi "hotly denied" the incident, the Congress seized the opportunity to target the NDA government and demanded that the Supreme Court take suo motu action in the case.

Trouble started when a national daily published a report saying MHA additional secretary B K Prakash, who was conducting the probe, had told former ministry official Ashok Kumar about questions he would be asked.

Prakash also asked Kumar, presently joint secretary (Parliament, Hindi Division), to say he had not seen the missing documents. The missing files related to the Ishrat Jehan fake encounter case had triggered a political storm earlier, with the government accusing the then Home minister P Chidambaram of changing an affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court. The files related to the change in stand were missing, according to the government.

Following this, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had ordered a single-member panel?to look into the missing files and Prakash had summoned eight officers from the Internal Security Division. On Wednesday, he submitted a report, saying some files are still missing.

Prakash said there was no evidence to establish that the officer (Kumar) testified to being tutored'. “I have conducted a free and fair inquiry, and my report will reveal this," he said.

In a statement, Chidambaram accused the Centre of creating a "fake controversy" over two affidavits filed in the Ishrat case and preparing a "doctored" report on the missing files.

“The moral of the story is that even a doctored report cannot hide the truth,” he claimed, adding, “The issue is whether Ishrat and three others were killed in a genuine or fake encounter in 2004. Only the trial, pending since July 2013, will reveal the truth.”

Bengaluru, Aug 4: Muzrai Department of Karnataka on Tuesday issued a circular requesting all temples in the state to perform special puja on Wednesday following the 'bhoomi pujan' for Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The circular was issued on the directions of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Commissioner's Office, Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department Karnataka said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

The construction of Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya after the foundation ceremony in which various dignitaries from political and religious fields are scheduled to participate.

The apex court, on November 9 last year, had directed the Central government to hand over the site at Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple.

The formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust was announced on February 5 for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. The Trust has been mandated by the Central government to oversee the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Mangaluru, Feb 10: Sandeep Malani has been of lately winning back to back awards at various events and film festivals. Being an actor, he has won 3 Best Actor awards (2 for his gripping performance in the Kannada feature film, Mookavismitha, directed by Gurudutt Sreekanth and one award for his multi faceted performance in the short film, Nishyabda Nishi directed by his son Silver). This honor was given at the Karnataka Youth International Short Film Festival.

With donning so many feathers of awards in his hat, he recently bagged the most prestigious one; that being receiving the Award for Best Feature Film shot on Mobile for his film ‘Maa – Yeh CineMaa Hai’ shot on iPhone at the 1st ever IMFF India (International Mobile Film Festival India 2020) held at World Trade Center, Mumbai on 8th February.

With a whole lot short films in the category and barely few feature films in the Feature Film Category, Malani verged out to be the winner as his Hindi film was a complete family entertainer that of 5 songs, sentiment value, and a wholesome entertainer with 100 artists working in the film that consists of stage and television actors, newcomers, models and common people. The film starred Sandeep’s family members playing important roles. His mother, Meena Malani (playing the title role), wife Reshma Malani (playing one of the lead actress) and son Silver Malani (playing an important character). Mangaluru, May 20: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, a Class 10 student who was preparing for the final examinations drowned in Adyapady dam on the outskirts of the city yesterday.

The victim is Mallik, 17, a resident of Mulur village in Gurpur. The tragedy occurred when Mallik along with some others had come to the dam to catch fish.

According to the police, he accidentally slipped into the waters and drowned. His body was recovered later. 

Jurisdictional Bajpe police have registered a case of unnatural death and investigations are underway.
