Woman exposes 'unofficial' husband's flirtations on FB

January 7, 2017

Bengaluru, Jan 7: A Facebook post by a man’s unofficial wife has exposed his suspected philandering ways. Police are now hot on his trail following complaints by the unofficial spouse as well as his legally wedded wife of six months.

VazirMinal (name changed), 28, filed a cheating complaint against Vazir Ahmed Shariff, whom she had met eight years ago through a common friend who introduced him as ‘Rajiv Ghatti’. Minal was floored by his impressive profile: MBA graduate, son of a DCP and owner of a hollow block factory. The two started meeting frequently and later decided to marry. Their “marriage” happened three years ago at Ganesha temple in Halasuru and they settled in Pulakeshinagar.

Minal began to suspect Shariff when he started coming home at odd hours. Suspicion soon gave way to shock when she stumbled on a photograph of him with another woman on a social networking site. When she confronted him, he claimed that the woman was his “sister”.

But Minal remained unconvinced and kept digging into her husband’s shady history. She got the shock of her life when she learnt that his real name was Vazir Ahmed Shariff and that he legally married a Muslim woman as early as in July 2016. When she confronted him with this information, he was dazed. He just blocked her number on his phone and went away.

“All these years, Shariff, on the pretext of developing his factory, took at least Rs 10 lakh from Minal,” said Revathi Rohira, her lawyer. Minal was working as a healthcare professional. She gave Shariff her jewellery and that of her mother when he had asked for money.

Explosive post

Minal decided to expose her “husband”. She created a fake profile on Facebook under the name ‘Md Yousuf’ and revealed all in an explosive post. “Vazir Shariff has cheated a woman in the name of love. He played games with her life and spoiled her. He had even taken several lakhs of rupees from her and got married to another woman to spoil her life. Forward dis message to all our Muslim brothers and sisters to keep away from him and his family (sic),” the post read.

Following the post, Minal was contacted by at least seven women who shared having similar experiences with Shariff, Revathi said.

Minal didn’t stop at that. She contacted Shariff’s legally wedded wife and explained everything to her. Initially, she didn’t believe her.

But when Minal gave her evidence in the form of chats and messages, she confronted her husband. Shariff took his wife to Kunigal and warned her against confiding in her parents. But her parents got to know about the matter anyway and took her away. They went on to file a dowry harassment complaint against Shariff and members of his family at the Hebbal police station. Meanwhile, Minal lodged a cheating complaint against him at the Pulakeshinagar police station. Other women are also considering filing separate complaints against Shariff for cheating them, Revathi said.

The Hebbal and Pulakeshinagar police, who are hunting for Shariff, have found his mobile phone switched off and his family members elusive. “We have summoned some of his friends and enquired about his whereabouts, but no arrests have been made,” a senior police officer said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 5: One man has been arrested in connection with the death of a pregnant elephant in Palakkad district here, Kerala Forest Minister K Raju said on Friday.

"One accused identified as Wilson has been arrested in connection with the case. More people are involved. The process to arrest all the accused is underway. Strict action will be taken in the matter to ensure such incidents are not repeated in the future," Raju told reporters here.

The elephant had died in Palakkad district on May 27 after it ate a pineapple stuffed with crackers and forest officials said that it died standing in river Velliyar after it suffered an injury in its lower jaw.

Raju said that the forest department has appointed three teams to probe the matter, and added that police are also investigating the incident as explosives were used.

"There may be some type of crackers inside the fruit. In such cases, blast occurs and the animal can not even drink water. The primary post mortem reports said that this case is like that. Let it be investigated," he said.

"Man and animal conflict is natural in our state as people residing close to the forests. The government gives compensation for farmers, Rs 10 lakhs compensation if a person dies in an animal attack," the Minister added.

The death of the pregnant elephant has sparked a controversy, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan terming the unfortunate death as "a painful thing" and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar saying that the Centre has taken a "serious note" of the incident.

According to the preliminary post-mortem report, the immediate cause of the death of the female elephant was drowning followed by inhalation of water leading to lung failure.

The elephant was seen standing in the river with its mouth and trunk in the water for some relief from the pain after the explosive-filled fruit exploded in its mouth.

New Delhi, Jan 6: A blind student who is pursuing research in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was also attacked by the mob that perpetrated violence in the University yesterday.

"I thought that the mob which came yesterday would disperse after raising a few slogans but they indulged in violence. They were targeting ABVP students. They beat me with sticks and rods. When I went to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, I came to know that there are many other injured students there," Surya Prakash, the blind student pursuing research in the University told ANI.

"I talked to my family members. They are really worried about the situation here. I qualified in the National Eligibility Test (NET) last year but I want to study and hence I am continuing research in JNU. How can we do anything in this atmosphere of fear? I am receiving calls from anonymous numbers threatening me not to come in front of the media. They are saying that as I am blind, I would become the face of this case," he added.

Another PhD student, Santosh Bhagat recounted his experience.

"In the evening at around 7 pm, many masked men entered the hostel. They had rods and sticks in their hands. We tried to go out but the attackers had entered the premises by then. I locked my room from inside but the attackers broke the door and entered my room and attacked me. They pushed me from the first floor and I fell down and sustained an injury. Later, I took shelter at one of the Professor's flat. Later, I was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Cantre," Bhagat said.

On Sunday evening, more than 30 students of the university, including JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, were injured and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after a masked mob entered the JNU and attacked them and professors with sticks and rods.

The JNU administration and political leaders, cutting across political lines, condemned the attack on students and urged the police to take action against the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the situation remained tense but peaceful outside JNU on Monday morning as the university guards maintained a strict vigil at the gate, checking I-cards of all those entering the university.

Mar 12: Three women were arrested for allegedly administrating fake coronavirus vaccines to villagers in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said on Thursday.

The police on Wednesday arrested Beed residents Radha Ramnath Saamse, Seema Krishna Andhale and Sangeeta Rajendra Avhad, who allegedly posed as doctors and healthcare workers, an official said.

The trio met villagers of Pipalgoan in Ambad tehsil, informed them about a vaccine that could protect them from coronavirus and administered it to gullible locals, he said.

Some villagers informed Dr Mahadev Munde, a medical officer at a rural health centre, about this, after which a complaint was lodged, the official said.

Fake vaccines and bottles, which were seized from the accused, have been sent to the state health department, he said, adding that a case of cheating has been registered against the trio.
