Woman loses jewellery worth Rs 90,000 to conman in Mysuru

Mysuru, Jul 12: A woman lost her gold ornaments worth Rs 90,000 to a conman who pretended to be a cop.

In her complaint to the KR Nagar police, R B Gowramma, 50, a resident of Mirle village under KR town police, said the incident occurred near KR Nagar government hospital on Wednesday.

Gowramma said when she was walking near the hospital after getting down from the bus, a person, posing as a policeman, stopped her and asked her to keep her valuables safe as thieves were roaming in the area. He offered help in removing and wrapping up the jewellery.

Gowramma believed him and handed over her jewellery to wrap it up in a paper packet after which the man left the spot on a bike with another person.

When Gowramma uncovered the packet, she found a lime stone instead of her ornaments.

KR Nagar police launched an investigation. Gowramma said the conmen travelled towards Hassan.

A few months ago, such incidents were reported in Mysuru city. Conmen were targeting the elderly.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 26: The Kerala Police on Wednesday arrested a man who had threatened people protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Delhi on social media.

"The person was arrested by Agali police in Palakkad district for trying to instigate communal violence," the Police said.

On Tuesday, Kerala DGP Lokanath Behera had said that strict action will be taken against those who try to create any communal divide.

"Action will be taken against those who create or forward such messages that create communal tension through social media. All messages on social media are under police surveillance," he said.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.
